PLANNING COORDINATOR

POSITION SUMMARY:
This Planning Coordinator will assist with a variety of planning, forecasting and reporting activities. This position will interact with a variety departments, collecting data and planning for activities in support of company goals.

SKILLS & GENERAL EXPERIENCE:

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

PLANNING RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Review inventory levels and forecasts for assigned product lines; schedule future production in a cost effective manner and according to department policies.

2. Develop and analyze reports in order to anticipate demand fulfillment problems. Work with Manufacturing to expedite Production Orders and communicate shortages appropriately.

3. Entry and maintenance of Production Orders in accordance with Manufacturing and PPL policies.

4. Develop tools, systems and procedures that ensure accuracy of MPS and forecasting system data.

5. Maintain global forecast templates and assist with global forecast consolidation.

6. Review metrics and update forecasts for assigned products.

MASTER DATA RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Coordinate timely and accurate creation/maintenance of the company Line List.

2. Coordinate the timely collection of master data elements throughout the company.

3. Enter master data elements to company systems.

4. Communicate line lists and master data elements throughout the organization.

5. Identify systems improvements and coordinate implementation with IT personnel.

OTHER:
1. Support the PPL department through various data entry, reporting and analysis activities as needed. Assist in the maintenance of Bill of Materials, Routers, annual costing updates and procedure writing.

Marketing
TECHNICAL ILLUSTRATOR

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Black Diamond Marketing Department provides design, editorial,
photographic, promotional planning and production resources to develop,
maintain and evolve the visual identity of the our global brand and company. The Technical Illustrator, in partnership with the Technical Communicator, will drive the creation of an illustration-based instructions and packaging that communicates and maintains the integrity of the Black Diamond brand identity with the appropriate technical usage illustrators of BD products. In addition to driving a new design language for multilingual instructions that come with PPE (personal protective equipment) and other CE-certified gear, the Technical Illustrator will execute these illustrations for every style in the BD line.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education

Required: Bachelor's degree with emphasis in Technical Illustration, Illustration or Graphic Design.

Preferred: Bachelor's degree with emphasis in Technical Illustration.

Work Experience

Required: 2 years as an Technical Illustrator

Preferred: 4+ years as a Technical Illustrator & Graphic Designer

SKILLS & GENERAL EXPERIENCE:

*Passionate climber and/or skier; Capable of articulating intimate
familiarity with climbing and freeride skiing. Experience in rock/ice
climbing and skiing is necessary to understand the technical nuances of
building effective instructions for Black Diamond products.

*Solid technical illustration skills and a attention to detail is critical.

* Proven experience in creating product drawings and exploded drawings for
instructions.

* Excellent ability to verbally & graphically communicate ideas to clients.

* Must be able to work independently in gathering and testing content and
keep project on schedule.

* Must have a professional working knowledge of relevant design programs for
print and packaging and general project management (Including: Adobe
Creative Suite, MS Office, Macintosh OS X, Etc.).

* Experience in directing and/or shooting photography for illustration
purposes is preferred.

* Ability to work in an open workspace environment; Strong organizational

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Authorized & responsible for the following, in accordance with all BDEL Quality, Safety, Employee Guidelines policies and procedures:

Marketing
TECHNICAL COMMUNICATOR

POSITION SUMMARY:
Plan, create and edit new illustration-based instructions for Black Diamond products. Must be motivated and a self-starter. This position is responsible for driving the new look, feel and multiple-language design of product instructions from start to finish. It is a fast-paced, deadline driven and business-critical, project-focused position. In addition to defining the new language and architecture of product instructions (working closely with the Technical Illustrator), the Technical Communicator will also serve as project-lead in coordinating the needs of Product, Sales, Quality and Legal departments.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education

Required: Bachelors Degree with minimum of a minor in technical writing.

Work Experience

Required: 2 years experience in technical writing.

SKILLS & GENERAL EXPERIENCE:
Demonstrated ability in the following software—Mac, Word; working knowledge of InDesign. Knowledge of printing processes helpful. Attention to detail is critical. The following is required: understanding of international communication, familiarity with visual rhetoric and experience writing technical product instructions. Experience in rock/ice climbing and backcountry skiing is necessary to understand the technical nuances of building effective instructions for Black Diamond Equipment. Must be able to work independently in gathering and testing content and keep the project on deadline.

determine appropriate schedule of instruction re-design by season.

2. Responsible for writing all instructions, based on schedule, to
work within parameters set by Marketing Manager.

Product Development
CATEGORY DIRECTOR—GLOVES & LIGHTING

POSITION SUMMARY:
Serve as product and category champion, researcher, planner, strategist and primary communicator of category direction to company, especially to Marketing, Sales, Product Development team, and Finance. Develop, manage, direct and track all aspects of strategic global product and category line planning. Research, analyze and formally report on industry, competitor and customer use trends and influences to determine short, mid and long term direction of product, product line and category.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Required: Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing/Sales, Engineering or other related fields.

Preferred: Master's degree in Business Administration, Engineering or other related fields.

Alternative to Education Requirement: Additional 5 yrs experience in Product Design and/or development, or business administration (10 yrs total) could substitute for Bachelor’s degree.

Work experience:

Required: 5 years post graduate experience in product line development, marketing or promotion, or business administration in the outdoor industry, or as a buyer of Climbing/Ski equipment for a large retailer of outdoor equipment.

Preferred: 5+ years experience in outdoor recreational product development, marketing or promotion.

Alternative to Work Experience: A Master’s Degree in Business Administration or Marketing could substitute for 2 of the 5 years of post graduate required work experience.

SKILLS & GENERAL EXPERIENCE:
An in depth knowledge of the category’s sport and products, industry & culture, customers, trends and competitors is required. Active participant in the category’s sport is required. Excellent communication skills (written & verbal) and basic business computer skills (word processing, Excel, Power Point, Internet) are required. Budget and expense management experience required. Familiarity with customary product line financial performance measures, and product design and development processes required. Demonstrated ability to use discretion and independent judgment required.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (PRIORITIZED SAMPLE OF ACTIVITIES):
Responsible and authorized to do the following, all in accordance with BDEL Quality, Safety and Employee policies and procedures:

1. Research, develop, manage and direct all aspects of Strategic Business Planning relative to Category and product direction and development for both domestic and international markets and Director of Product Creation’s overall vision, incorporating BDEL’s business objectives and goals for revenue and margin, and communicate to & work with Sales, Marketing and Finance departments to identify and implement tactics necessary to fulfill key strategies for category and products in order to become, maintain or surpass market leader for both products and category; conduct presentations of product and category strategies as needed to Sales Reps and selected OEM customers.

2. Develop, manage, and direct all aspects of Product Line Planning and Management, for both new and in-line products, that are consistent with Category Strategic Business Plan strategies, in order to create product & product line differentiation within the market, provide clear category and product segmentation needs for various distribution/channel issues for both domestic & international sales; communicate as necessary to Sales, Marketing, production and development teams; conduct on and off-site product and category presentations to communicate same to selected OEM, Key Retail domestic & international customers.

3. Provide, monitor and update initial forecasts for products until production phase, create & maintain spare parts lists and forecasts for life of product & warranty period, coordinate product launch dates and phase out of declining product and efficient SKU management with PPL, Sales and Marketing;

4. Research, develop, and monitor product cost/margin/retail targets and category and product briefs, communicate details and objectives as necessary to design and development team, production team, Sales & Marketing, review and evaluate costing/margin/retail objectives at various stages of development to ensure meeting cost/margin/retail targets; assist Director of Product Creation with developing and monitoring of departmental, category and product development budgets, and marketing & promotional budgets relative to category.

5. Provide input to and conduct reviews of drawings, prototypes, etc. , both in-house and off-site, as required by product development team and other development resources to build prototype product within the agreed upon criteria, development timeline and budget.

Toolroom
TOOLROOM SCHEDULER


POSITION SUMMARY:

The Toolroom Scheduler will supervise and direct the Toolroom operations. Responsibilities include scheduling fabrication, repair, and maintenance of process fixtures, dies, and tooling and coordinating and delegating tasks to toolroom staff.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required: High School Diploma or GED and 4 years experience in Supervision or Management in Manufacturing

Preferred: Trade school certificate or associates degree and previous experience as a tool and die maker with experience running and programming CNC Equipment . Experience with MS Office.

SKILLS & GENERAL EXPERIENCE:
Must be able to supervise machinists, develop schedules and work with managers to properly prioritize Toolroom activities. Basic Toolroom skills, familiarity with 3-D CAM programming, set-up and operation of CNC equipment, advance machining, and thorough understanding of and familiarity with manufacturing methodology are preferred

 
Manufacturing
MANUFACTURING MATERIAL HANDLER

POSITION SUMMARY:
Assist in Receiving, Storage, Kitting, and Control of Raw Material and Sub-Assembly inventory. Packaging and Distribution of Finished and Sub-Assembly inventory. Handling and Distribution of packages and daily mail at 3900 South Location. Product and materials Pick and Delivery duties.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Required: High School Diploma or equivalent

Work Experience:

Required: 6 months experience in a warehouse or stockroom/materials expediting environment.

Preferred: Prior experience with Stockroom duties, materials handling and expediting, Inventory Control systems, and Trafficking.

SKILLS & GENERAL EXPERIENCE:
Basic math and written communication skills required. Ability to work well with others, meet deadlines, follow written and oral instructions and perform a variety of warehousing, inventory control and stock keeping duties required.

LICENSES & CERTIFICATION:
Required: Forklift Operation Certification (can obtain OTJ)
Preferred: Forklift Cert & Valid Utah
Driver's License and clean driving record

 
Development
SKI HARDWARE DEVELOPER II

This position will be responsible for the management and execution of Black Diamond’s product development process activities for the Ski product category. Responsibilities will include:

  • Leading all development tasks for specific product development projects for this ski product category from the design specification hand off phase through to the final product commercialization phaseCompletion of the all required development functions in accordance with the product design objectives and within the published company development timeline, projected product costing and spending targets.Working as a member of a cooperative team based working environment.
    guiding line concepts, manufacturability, cost and supplier input during the design conceptualization phase
  • Assuming a managing role during the sampling and implementation phase, whether made in-house or out, and provide a seamless transition of the product into stable bulk manufacturing.

A BS in Mechanical Engineering and/or Product Design and Mechanical Engineering and 3 years of experience in ski hardware development and/or engineered consumer product development such as snowboard hardware and/or cycling components is required.

A Bachelor’s degree in any discipline combined with a thorough global knowledge base and work experience in ski hardware product design, testing and development may substitute for above. In addition, experience in sub-component supply chain management, project management or industrial engineering in an ISO compliment company(s) in outdoor recreation market and/or related industries is desired.

Comprehensive understanding of global manufacturing enterprises combined with the leadership traits and communication skills required to manage business development in this environment. Experience with quality systems, lean manufacturing techniques, sourcing and vendor qualification, product design, costing, MRP and global logistics is required. Strong leadership, collaboration and negotiation skills are mandatory. Thorough knowledge of MS office tools required. Understanding of 3D modeling, industrial design, demand management and supplier contracts required. Must be able to use the product in the field and provide critical feedback on product function.

Required licenses: Valid passport and drivers’ license. Travel abroad is required.

Research & Development
DESIGNER III

POSITION SUMMARY:
Design, develop, and refine products to meet company goals – primarily the most complex & demanding of parts, surface modeling, in-line product refinements and new designs. Develop product specifications. Assist in the refinement of criteria for future products. Be an active participant on “Product Development Strategy Groups”. Establish control drawings of new products and update existing drawings per the BD DCO process.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Required: Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design, Mechanical Engineering, or a related design field.

Work experience:

Required: 5+ years post grad experience in consumer product design

Preferred: at least 3 yrs of above experience in Outdoor Product design

SKILLS & GENERAL EXPERIENCE:
Efficient with CAD, including 2D, 3D wireframe and solid modeling, prototype building, metal goods manufacturing (for hardware designers); sewing, or textiles (for softwear designers) required. Demonstrated skillful & extensive Surface Modeling experience mandatory. Must possess an in-depth, working knowledge of rock climbing, backcountry skiing, and mountaineering equipment and their use as required for specific products. Demonstrated keen/visionary sense of esthetics & creativity compatible with BD brand mandatory. Engineering related mathematics skills required; word processing, spreadsheet and internet research skills required. Post Graduate design portfolio of products brought successfully to market required. Proven ability to meet design criteria & meet design timelines mandatory.Alternative qualification: 10+ years experience designing outdoor equipment may substitute for education requirement.Required licenses: None. A passport may be needed if travel outside the country is required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Responsible and authorized to perform the following duties in accordance with BD Quality System, Safety and Employee Guideline policies and procedures:

1. Design new products & in-line product updates/refinements as assigned, assist other designers with design details & esthetics as directed & assigned by Senior Design Team leader or Dir. Of Product Mgmt.
2. Create all the drawings, geometry and specifications for new products & product refinements as necessary for accurate prototyping, tooling & manufacturing.
3. Create prototypes when appropriate.
4. Ensure that designs and prototypes conform to the stated design criteria & specifications; communicate non-conforming design issues to the Product Design & Development Director.
5. Follow & adhere to the timeline requirements of the assigned project.
6. Mentor and assist other designers with modeling, design and planning skills and through lead-by-example exemplary design output.
7. Assist the design team in creating and maintaining the project and product files.
8. Assist PP&L, Manufacturing, Engineering, QA and Marketing in the creation of BOMs, manufacturing methodologies & requirements, and inspection criteria.
9. Participate in Product Strategy Group meetings.
10. Process Design Change Orders in a timely and accurate manner, and be the design signatory for products you have designed.
11. Research new technologies and materials for potential use for Black Diamond products.
12. Co-ordinate and develop relationships with outside vendors and design resources.

Quality Assurance
QA ENGINEER

POSITION SUMMARY:
Conduct statistical and graphical analysis of test data. Conduct product testing. Analyze test data, determine product and component strength ratings. Provide technical support for the Quality Assurance, Engineering, Product Design & Development, Sewing, PP&L, and Manufacturing Departments. Define, implement, and maintain quality records systems for test, design, and product rating documents.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Required: Bachelors degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Materials Science).
Preferred: Bachelors degree in one of above with advanced statistical analysis knowledge.

Work experience:

Required: Internships or major classwork focused on testing materials & statistical analysis.
Preferred: 1 year post-graduate experience testing materials & statistical analysis.

SKILLS & GENERAL EXPERIENCE:
Required: General knowledge of strength of materials & failure analysis. General database, word processing, and spreadsheet knowledge. Ability to read and implement technical procedures and government regulations. Ability to design test fixtures and relevant test procedures. Ability to collect and present data, identify trends, and make written & verbal reports on conclusions.
