Rated 5 von 5 von aus How Do You Beat This? I tried numerous high end shells from reputable brands before landing on the Sharp End. Why this one? (1) Fit- Apparantly BD has employed the correct designers for this task (2) Fabric- Goretex Pro is no-brainier (I have experience w this fabric) Safe for any conditions: extreme cold/wind, rain, cool sun protection at ski area w vents open and t-shirt beneath. (3) Lightweight- one pound #?! And for this weight the fabric is substantial enough for use in wind and resort skiing where other similar weight shells can be flimsy. (4) Appearance- The green color (whatever they call it it) is visible but not gawdy. All said, I was happy to finally find this jacket.

Rated 5 von 5 von aus Helped save a life. Hurricane Harvey came through Houston. My grandfather was stuck in his house with five feet of water in it. This jacket helped me stay warm and dry while fighting torrential rains and horrific winds. Not only did it help me get to him, it helped warm him back up on the mile voyage back to high ground. Thank you BD for a fantastic product. I'll be a lifelong customer.

Rated 5 von 5 von aus Workhorse I bought this shell for Search and Rescue ops. Needless to say it comes out when the weather is at its worst. It went through the ringer Saturday night in the driving rain, high wind, and thick underbrush during a ropes rescue. Not only did it work flawlessly with my harness, helmet, and chest rig, it breathed well, dumped heat out of the long pit zips, and didn't show any wear after many scraps and rubs against the rocks and thick brush as we hauled the patient back up the mountain in the stokes basket. I can't brag enough on the toughness of the material. If you are looking for a bombproof shell that will keep you dry go for the Sharp End.

Rated 5 von 5 von aus Nailed it. Fit, Hood, Underarm gusset are all spot on. I specifically like the length of the sleeves, neck cut when fully zipped, and torso length (below the illiac crest about 6 inches). I'm 6'2 180 and the Size L is appropriate- I would not size up or down. It will layer a Cold Forge for AK expeditions, cut is good for backcountry laps, and the underarm gusset is spot on for swinging tools. An upgrade from the Front Point shell which they warrantied out from a broken zipper. BD also changed the zipper pulls to a girthed pull which is another plus. Black looks good and branding is discrete.

Rated 5 von 5 von aus Sharp End Shell - Great I've used this shell skinning laps in the Utah backcountry. I've also used it in full dad (4kids) mode at the resort. For my money there is no better hardshell jacket than the BD Sharp End. Super durable. I have abused it in the backcountry whipping through early season brush and tight tree lines and it shows no signs of my cruelty. I wear this over the BD Hot Forge Jacket and the fit/warmth/wicking is top notch. I know this won't mean much to the non-locals (Utah) but the added value that I'm supporting a local company and the comfort knowing that the warranty shop is just down the road has kept me a BD fan for years. BD is always top notch with all warranty related issues. The BD Sharp End is best fitting shell I've owned. I'm 5'10" 165 and medium is just right. The jacket packs down well for the quality of the build. The GORE-TEX waterproof membrane has kept me dry in the harshest conditions. I suppose if there is any negative I would say the fabric doesn't have much give so proper sizing is key.

Rated 4 von 5 von aus Great jacket! Small criticisms This is my first Gortex hardshell and I love it! Ive had it 3 months and have not tested as fully as I wish as I am spending most of my time studying. I am 6 foot 3 inches, 185 pounds and wear this jacket in Large. I love the black jacket, I feel Ill never get tired of it, and the super stealth logo on the chest is pretty badass. Main use for skiing and defence against the blistering cold winds in Montreal Criticisms - This jacket could be a couple inches longer, understandably its not meant to be a long jacket, but if you are tall it won't protect your butt or anywhere near. - When skiing with it fully zipped up, the jacket rubs unpleasantly on my chin, something to think about when redesigning. - The cohesive pullcords are super cool and low-key, but once I have pulled them they are resistant to retract and I kinda have to push the cord back into jacket to loosen it up around my waist. - I am unsure if I am supposed to take the jacket off to open/close the pit zips, but it can be difficult to do so while wearing it. No matter if you have friends around to assist. Praise - Love the cuffs! Not only do they open super wide, but the rubber tab to seal them closed feels super secure unlike other jackets. - The hood fits really nicely and the hood of my insulation jacket fits seamlessly into it. The brim comes down appropriately low, blocking out wind but not cutting vision. - Having 2 zippers on the pit zip is ingenious! I can't imagine it another way. - All my other jackets had way more pockets than the sharp end, but I like having only four. One inside check and one outside chest is super convenient. - Obviously any Gortex pro jacket is gonna keep out wind and snow and rain and sleet, and Im happy to say that after 3 months of continuous use I haven't even started to see any wetting out, the DWR is going strong! Overall I recommend this jacket! It is very solidly constructed and I hope to wear it for years come! Thanks Black Diamond!

Rated 5 von 5 von aus Fits and functions well. Frankly I chose this shell over other models because it was the color I wanted. Making the logo the same color is subtle and discreet. Nice. I was pleased to find that it's sized well, made well, and does what it claims. I'm 6'2", 195lb dry, slightly positive ape index, and size L fits just right. In particular the torso is long enough to make this a good shell for skiing. There are lighter shells out there but this one is a versatile balance of weight and burl.

Rated 5 von 5 von aus It's a fortress (but not a burden). You know that special thing that happens when the 2 foot snow storm that was predicted comes in at 33 degrees F instead of 32? That's what this thing is for. I've had this baby out in some pretty high misery potential weather, and it puts a smile on my face every time. If you're at a place where you are ready to spend the extra cash on a really good hard shell (maybe you just came in from wearing a $70 jacket in the aforementioned sort of storm), I recommend considering this one. Probably my favorite feature of this jacket is the balance it strikes between pack-ability and strength. It leans towards the stronger side of things, so those of you trying to go ski touring out of a teeny fanny pack: 1. you're crazy... 2. this probably isn't for you. However, it still packs down easily to about half the size of a football and it isn't going to rip in half when you introduce it to a 60 mph wind. I've worn it doing confined space rescue and rope rescue in the rain, torn through thin lines off piste in the pine trees, and worn it for miles of schlepping with a pack and, surprise, it's not ruined! As far as protection, it keeps even the blustery winds out well and stops water fantastically. It vents as well as I've ever had a durable hard shell vent and layers very well. It isn't meant to keep you warm, so you still need a mid-layer for winter adventures. I went with a medium, and as someone who is 5'10" and 160 pounds, it does get tight with a puffy underneath, but is otherwise very accommodating.
