Canada Canada

I’m Callum Pettit and I live in Pemberton B.C. I grew up skiing on Whistler/Blackcomb Mountain, which has lots of terrain to explore.

In the last two years though I wanted to see more—more new mountains and less people. So I bought a snowmobile. Ian McIntosh and Dana Flahr have been showing me the ropes the last few years and have been able to get some shots out here in the backcounty. Though sometimes you hate your snowmobile for all the problems and how much it beats you up. However, when you’re sitting on it after a sick line or just gazing at the beautiful surroundings and where it has taken you, you really do love it.

There is still alot to be explored in our mountains by sled or heli and want to get more into going farther into the mountains and skiing new lines. I was fortunate enough to go on a TGR trip to Italy this year, which was there biggest snow year in 15 years. Too much snow at times where you couldnt go fast. Best food ever. If you like food go to Italy. Then extended my ticket and went to Chamonix to see with my own eyes all the great things I’ve heard. My good friend Kye Petersen was there so we met up and were living the true ski bum lifestyle. We were lucky to be skiing with Stian Hagen because he's lived there forever and knows where its gonna be the best for snow. I showed up five days after a storm and we got freshies everyday. You can see why there are no snowmobiles there. There’s lifts up to the highest peaks; its unreal.

I love the freedom that skiing has given me. And the adventures. My goals for next season are to go back to Chamonix in Jan/Feb and do some more ski touring there. Also going to Alaska in the spring. In the past summers I would go back to eastern Canada to visit and work for my Dad. This summer I’m going to stay here and skateboard, bike, swim, ropeswing and work. See you on the slopes.

Birthday? 04/01/1990

Year you first started skiing? 1992

Three skiing achievements you are most proud of?

  • Cover of Freeskier Buyers Guide 09.
  • To be apart of the Massive.
  • Traveling to Europe and ski in the Alps.

Memory/story of the first time you ever went skiing? I remember when I was in ski school when I was about four. I was in a tuck down Sparks at Camp Fortune and I went right though my instructor’s legs and passed him.

Favorite skiing area and why? Whistler/Blackcomb because it is my home resort and there is a lot of fun stuff to ride. Easy access to the backcountry. Lots of fun runs just outside the boundaries.

Best skiing experience? Going to Italy with TGR and skiing deep pow and eating the best food. Then went to Chamonix and freeskied for a week with my friends Kye and Oli. Stian Haggen showed us around and brought us to the best spots where there was still fresh pow.

Worst skiing experience? Having to leave Chamonix. Come back home and first day back out on the sled I hit a cliff and tomahawk into a little hole which was a crevasse. I bruised my leg and was out for a couple weeks.

What's your dream trip? Where? With who? It would have to be going to Valdez, Alaska with Kye Petersen and ski some classics with stellar conditions.

Guilty pleasure? Häagen Dazs

BD gear you use every time you go skiing? Agent pack with Avalung.

Something that annoys you while skiing? Line ups.

What/who inspires you in skiing? The mountains themselves. Kye's drive and motivation inspires me to get out there. Jeremy Jones, Travis Rice, Sage, Tanner.

Favorite apres-ski meal? Big burger and fries with a cold beer. Favorite skiing flick? Parental Advisory

Strangest place you've ever woken up? Don’t really have one of those. But in Austria I fell asleep at like 6pm and woke up two hours later at 8pm when the sun was going down but I thought it was morning and coming up. I went down stairs and said good morning to the lady at the front desk. Then it got darker and I didn’t know what was going on.

Three things you'd never roadtrip without? Friends, music and a vehicle.

What's your dream job? Something that allows me to ski and travel all the time.

How are you training when you are not skiing? Skateboarding and biking.

If you could steal one thing and not get caught, what would it be? Helicopter.

If you could have dinner with three people (dead or alive) who would they be? ODB, James Brown, and Bill Murray.

Which would you prefer: power of flight or invisibility? Flight for sure.

Do you have any tattoos or piercings? No
