BD athlete Nicolas Favresse & Co on Slide Show Tour: Asgard Jamming

In July and August 2009, BD athlete Nicolas Favresse, Olivier Favresse, Stéphane Hanssens and Sean Villanueva ventured on a rock climbing expedition in Baffin Island in the Canadian Arctic. The result of the expedition: four first ascents and a rare repeat on rock faces of 800 to 1000 m high. Three of these routes are on the famous Mount Asgard. They brought back some incredible images (pictures and video) and would like to share their adventures with you.

To get to mount Asgard the climbers were dropped off by a small boat at the entrance of Weasel Valley with all their gear and food for 45 days. From here they still had to walk 60km to the base of mount Asgard. To carry all their food and gear to the base of the wall, they had to do three return trips on the way up and two return trips on the way out, with a total of nearly 600km of walking, with heavy backpacks of 30 to 40 kg.

For one of their ascents they spent 11 days on the vertical rock face, with hammocks and portaledges (hanging tents) to sleep in. For this ascent Silvia Vidal, a female climber from Cataluña joined them. Taking advantage of the 24hour daylight, other ascents were made in 24 to 30 hour efforts.

A little taste of what you'll see during the Asgard Jamming Tour...
