The BigLePowSki goes off in Davos, as the Dude delivers fresh powder on Schatzalp!!

The 3rd stop of the global BigLePowSki Tour went down this past weekend in Davos, Switzerland at the historic Schatzalp ski area.  As the crew was setting up for the event on Friday, things were not looking too good in the Rhätische Alps.  The winds and warm weather of the previous weeks has turned the snow conditions on these beautiful mountains into ice and crust.  But just as the Dude rolled into Davos, with him came a low-pressure system out of the Northwest, accompanied by a solid foot of cold snow!

As the crowds showed up on Friday night to the Wallhalla Bar for the Freeride Map and Avalung Workshops, the snow gently fell onto the endless slopes of Schatzalp.  As we awoke on Saturday morning, it was still snowing and to our delight there was very little wind.  Conditions were  way better than expected, the Dude had again delivered, and it was 'Game on'!

Walter von Ballmoos led the Ski Tour into the Schatzalp backcountry, where all participants were overjoyed by the fresh snow, the beautiful scenery and the eventual blue skies for the descent.  The Freeride workshops were led by BD Pro Skiers Chrigi Bless and Davv Pitschmann and the people from 10 different countries learned how to safely ski deep powder and were stoked to get to rip the hills with the pros.

The legendary BigLePowSki party on Saturday night in the Montana Bar was again not to be missed.  The slide-show presentation from Arc'teryx-sponsored pro skier Chad Sayers and eagle-eyed photographer Jordan Manley was an unforgettable and breath-taking experience of awesome ski photos from around the world and had the spectatotrs uttering 'Wow!'  And then 'As Schniit Ferdussna', the local ska band stepped on stage and made the Dude proud.  White suits, saxophones and super-groovy tunes had the whole place dancing the night away.

Sunday came early, as the sunny blue skies got everyone up early and got right into the powder.  No clouds, no wind and cold temperatures made for a primo powder day, and all the workshops went perfectly.  Even as it was time shut down the event tent and the ski lifts, the Dude couldn't get enough of the perfect conditions, and everyone seemed to just keep skiing until after 4pm!  Needless to say, it was a weekend to remember and we're sure all the 80 workshop participants slept like babies on Sunday night - not to mention the countless BD ski testers.

The BigLePowSki 2010 is proudly sponsored by Black Diamond, Arc'Teryx, Diamir Fritschi, Pieps, Nokia and Freeride Maps.  The next, and final, stop of the tour will be in St. Anton, Austria on March 19-21.
