Black Diamond athlete Pietro Dal Pra has left his mark on numerous walls throughout the Alps, pushing standards to new heights always with an eye toward style and quality. Now he has ventured to the island of Sardinia and established a dramatic multi-pitch first ascent.
ARIA (AIR)
ARIA is not just a route's or a movie's name: l' "aria" (the air) is what embroids the climbing experience. It is the life that embraces you and that you breathe when you're on the wall. Aria is what you feel around you, and that marks the distance between yourself and the world. Aria is what makes you feel tiny, a tininess of undefined boundaries that swells and melts into the vastity around. Aria hosts your solitude, but to the same extent the silent communication between you and your partner.
In love with and addicted to Sardinia, to vast realms still untouched, Lorenzo and I have been exploring for years new walls in the remotest folds of the island's mountains. Aria is a sardinian experience that we've tried to turn into a movie. It is the life in a place we cherish, the opening of a route, in modern style but with a somewhat alpine spirit, on the different yet most magnificent wall that we've ever touched - and for that matter, breathed.
