Following sold out shows across the UK last year, the Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour is returning to the UK in early 2011 with over 15 events planned across the country.  The World Tour travels the globe every year visiting more than 280 communities and over 30 different countries, underlining the world-wide popularity of mountain sports and culture and the international pulling power of this mind blowing festival!

The Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour is produced by Mountain Culture at The Banff Centre in Alberta, Canada, and features award-winning films and audience favorites from approximately 300 films entered in the annual festival in Banff. Held this year between the 30 October and 7 November, the festival featured an extraordinary range of films.  Many of these films will be showcased during the Banff tour in theatres across the UK.

The films selected for each screening are adapted to the local setting and audience.  Confirmed films for this year that will feature at some or all of the evenings include:

  • The Swiss Machine - Ueli Steck may be the greatest speed alpinist the world has ever seen. In this film, Ueli tells of his record-breaking ascents in the Alps, accompanied by stunning aerial footage that captures him racing up 8,000 foot alpine faces. When he joins Alex Honnold in Yosemite, Ueli sets his ultimate goal: to take his one-man alpine speed game to the largest, highest walls in the world
  • Life Cycles - Life Cycles provides some of the most visually stunning images the mountain sports world has ever seen. It's a beautiful celebration of the bicycle, and is sure to amaze anyone who has ever ridden one.
  • Azadi: Freedom - AZADI: Freedom takes a look at Kashmir in the wake of the violent militant insurgence of the 90s through the lens of skiing. The unique role that skiing is playing in rebuilding tourism in Kashmir is explored using cinematography, animation and story of local characters. The film crew explore the future presented to young Kashmiri as they venture into the mountains, backcountry skiing. The world's highest skiable gondola sits amid one of the most militarized regions in the world, yet the freedom of adventure is drawing foreigners back to this former Shangri-La.
