Hydroforming technology video

The Viper and Fusion ice tools are built using hydroforming, an advanced process in which pressurized water is used to expand the aluminum shaft into uniquely stiff, yet lightweight shapes with exceptional head clearance. Watch this video of Climbing Hardgoods Manager Bill Belcourt as he explains the process and its advantages.

These V2s are excellent tools, I used a set to do a bunch of ice routes on Mont Blanc du Tacul in February 2008, very lively, sturdy. My one alteration was to invert the upper trigger to create a saber-type enclosure for the hand, the tool "sticks" to your hand better this way making it harder to drop when used without leashes or tethers.

I am very excited about the Fusion 2, likely I may continue to use F1 for the hardest dry-tooling, however F2 will no doubt revolutionize high-standard mixed in the alpine environment offering high-end dry-tool capability in a tool very suited to ice and alpine applications, at last one tool that would excel in the Ice World Cup one weekend then give superb service on the Colton-MacIntyre only days later.

I am getting a set, dat's for sure...
