  • Director of Operations — BD Asia

    Summary of Role

    Black Diamond Equipment - a global leader in the design, manufacture and distribution of technical outdoor equipment - is seeking a highly qualified candidate to serve as the Director of Operations for its Zhuhai, China-based subsidiary.  The Director of Operations will report to BD Asia's Managing Director and will be responsible for BD Asia's in-house manufacturing, engineering and quality assurance functions.  This position is based in our Zhuhai facility and requires travel to and the US.

    The ideal candidate for this position will have a demonstrated history of leading diverse teams, communicating effectively cross-culturally and cross-organizationally, developing and mentoring a team of direct reports, and finding creative solutions to complicated challenges.  Furthermore, the ideal candidate will have experience working in Asia and an interest in outdoor sports and activities.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Assume overall leadership and responsibility for BD Asia's manufacturing, engineering and quality assurance functions to ensure output, quality and cost goals are met.
    • Play an integral role in setting strategy for company's global operational (manufacturing, engineering and quality assurance) issues and be responsible for translating them into executable tactical actions within BD Asia.
    • Manage and maintain key communication links between all relevant BD Asia and BDEL personnel, suppliers and subcontractors.
    • Mentor and manage BDEA operations staff.  This will include training, goal setting, performance management and career development.
    • Consistently ensure use of best practices in BD Asia's operations.  Drive system development and continuous improvement.
    • As part of senior management team, the Director of Operations will play an important role in BD Asia-wide general business management.

    Qualifications

    Education

    • Bachelor degree in engineering, MBA and/or other advanced degree is preferred.

    Language Skills

    • Proficiency in English required; proficiency in Mandarin is preferred.

    Work Experience

    • A minimum of 10 years experience with increasing levels of responsibility in a manufacturing/engineering environment.
    • The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of relevant managerial experience.
    • Three years of manufacturing / engineering experience in China /Asia is strongly preferred.

    POSITION SUMMARY
    This position will support the computer systems and network infrastructure for the enterprise. This position manages a team providing administration of multiple Linux and Windows servers, workstations, storage arrays, backup devices, routers, switches and software components. In addition, the position will provide expertise and guidance to peers, leadership and act as an advocate for insuring the computer systems infrastructure aligns with the overall business needs and goals.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Education
    Required: Bachelors of Science in Computer Science or related field

    Work Experience
    Required: 5 years systems administration, help desk or programming experience in a networked UNIX or Windows environment.

    Skills and general experience:
    Experience with Linux and Windows operating systems, as well as networking equipment. Knowledge of storage, backup, disaster recovery and security environments. Experience with C# and knowledge of database applications is desirable. Experience with Microsoft Navision is a plus.

    Alternative qualification: 8 years programming and/ or systems administration experience in a comparable computing environment in lieu of education.
    Required licenses: None

    2. Administer multiple Windows and Linux Servers.

    4. Configure and support servers and workstations as necessary (Windows, Linux, Mac)

    5. Write and maintain scripts to automate administrative tasks

    6. Willingly work additional hours to meet deadlines and respond to system failures

    7. Manage the sys-admin team to accomplish business goals and act as the technical leader

    8. Act as a liaison with remote locations on systems, hardware and network issues
