BD athlete Nico Favresse——Baffin Island Expedition UPDATE #5

Black Diamond athlete Nico Favresse is on an expedition to Baffin Island with the objective to establish new free routes in the Weasel Valley. He and partners Sean Villanueva, Olivier Favresse and Stephane Hansens will spend two months in this very remote part of the globe and hope to discover amazing first ascent possibilities.

Nico plans on sending us updates via their satelite phone as the adventure and climbing develops. We will post his messages here so that everyone can follow along, so be sure to keep checking back for updates from the team!

We just received Update #5 from Nico and it sounds like the group has returned to civilization safely.

We're back in civilization after 45 days of living like beasts.
We just noticed that our blog has not been very active... sorry, we've been having problems with the satellite phone.... somebody (identity unrevealed accordingly to expedition rules) seems to have been using the satellite phone for phone sex and we quickly ran out of credits.... that being said, we had an incredible time on Baffin Island. Amazing walls, bouldering and just a beautiful place to hang out.

You are probably wondering about this picture with Sean and the bear... Well we were really hungry and already running out of food. One of us had to go full commitment, take it for the team. As you might have heard Inuit often fight with bears to catch seals. Here it was with us. We voted and the absolute majority decided for Sean to be the one because he is by far the most hairy of us. We quickly made good friendship with the locals of Pangnirtung by sharing our prey.

More true stories coming soon...

—Nico
