BD Grassroots athlete Nik Berry attempts to break Alex Lowe's speed record on the Great White Icicle in Little Cottonwood Canyon, Utah

Black Diamond Grassroots athlete Nik Berry decided to take on one of the many mythical Alex Lowe speed records: a car-to-car lap up the Great White Icicle, a 650-foot WI 3 climb near the BD offices here in Salt Lake City. Alex's record is rumored to be an amazing 18 minutes. Photographer Andrew Burr had a few different cameras in place to capture the speed action, and sent us this video.

[Note: As Nik mentions in the video, speed soloing is "stupid and dangerous" so don't try this at home. Much like shark diving, juggling chainsaws or dating a Kardashian, it's fun to watch but ain't worth the risk to do yourself.]

Cool, next time he should try it with equipment from Alex's time...

I thought glissading in crampons was unacceptably dangerous?

Haaaaa, love it! Freakin' great. Love the old metal, too -- Nik's cranking a song from Metallica's 2nd album (before they sold out and started singing songs about love n shit like that), no wonder he motors. Proud.
