BD athlete Sonnie Trotter makes 5.13c multi-pitch first ascent in Squamish, Canada

Black Diamond athlete Sonnie Trotter recently sent us an email with news of a sweet new 5.13c multi-pitch route he established at Squamish, his home crag in southwest Canada. Below is Sonnie's email and a couple of great photos of the route that photographer Paul Bride took.

Hey Guys,  How's it going?

Who needs Yosemite when you got golden gems like this in your backyard?  ha ha ha.

I just wanted to write and say that I completed a new route on Friday.  It's incredible.  I've been working the line on and off all summer.  The temps dropped a little, I got new shoes, a kick-ass partner and headed up there Friday afternoon.

It's called the Intrepid Traverse. It's a 4 pitch 5.13c of mega high quality.  It's got a bit of everything, from steep hand jams to desperate slab.  Along with Jemery Blummel, I climbed all 4 pitches with no falls, leading 3 out of the 4.  It goes at 5.10, 5.11d, 5.13a, 5.13c.  But what makes it hard and unique, is the nature of the climbing and the fact that it traverses for like 200 feet.  5.13c certainly isn't near my limit, but for some reason I am especially proud of this new line.  It has something about it.

So far, it's the hardest completed multi-pitch climb on the Chief. There are harder individual pitches out there, for sure, but they haven't been linked yet.  This line is also the tip of the iceberg… I have at least 6 other projects here that are going to be harder and just as RAD.  My vision is to make Squamish climbing comparable to every other world class destination, because I firmly believe that it is… it's just that nobody has been willing to put in the work or the time to make it what it can be.  In the last five years, that's all changed, and again, in the next five years, too.

Hope you guys are doing great.

Sonnie.
