Mountain Gear pulled off another memorable climbing festival in Red Rock’s National Conservation Area in southern Nevada gathering close to 1000 climbers and outdoor enthusiasts in Spring Mountain State Park. The Red Rock Rendezvous has something for everyone; the event has evolved from being centered on rock climbing to include hiking, mountain biking, trail running, yoga and slack lining. This year 627 climbers including 72 first time climbers participated in climbing clinics.
Black Diamond athletes Kate Rutherford, Brittany Griffith, Chris Schulte, Cedar Wright, Alex Honnold and Sam Elias taught clinics specifically for Black Diamond ranging from multi-pitch efficiency to bouldering. The event is a great opportunity to get out with professional athletes and learn all the tricks the pros do on a daily basis, while enjoying 65-degree weather in March. After a full day of climbing and participating in clinics everyone gets together to mingle with the athletes, eat some Mexican food and watch slide shows from the adventures of Black Diamond athletes Cedar Wright, Matty Segal and many more.
When the sun goes down Red Rock Rendezvous begins to show its colors. New Belgium beers start to flow while Solar Scottie’s Space Machine starts to spin out tunes. Or you can head to the Old Nevada bar in Bonnie Springs to watch some entertaining karaoke. Sunday morning started off with a tasty pancake breakfast before sending people out for another day of instructional clinics.

Sounds like a fun event. I'll have to check it out next year. I saw the Alex Honnold film at the Banff Film Festival. Amazing climbing!
