#2-ranked Reine Barkered's finals run at the 2009 Verbier Extreme freeskiing comp
Team BD’s Reine Barkered finished 2nd in this coveted event—the Verbier Xtreme—and went on to finish 2nd overall on the Freeride World Tour (FWT) 2009, missing the World Championship Title by a mere few points. Reine goes into the FWT 2010 ranked #2, with the opening event in Sochi, Russia in January. Go for it, Reine!
For two nights before this competition, I couldn't really sleep well. The Bec des Rosses is an extremely intimidating face and there is so much to think about… it’s steep, long and it has more rocks and cliffs than snow. But this final competition would decide the overall champion for the whole Freeride World Tour, so I decided to set my mind on giving it all I’ve got.
"3, 2, 1. Rider go...!" I dropped into the 50°+ upper flank of the Bec, focused on my line and my mind went blank. I just went for it and on every air I thought, "Nope, this might not work out, but still the will of winning the Tour was strong enough to keep me on my feet. After I crossed the finish line, I was so stoked that I made it all the way down in one piece and I knew that I would score well on that run, I just collapsed from exhaustion with a big smile on my face! —RB
