BD employee Tanja Kulkies climbs east ridge of Switzerland's Piz Palü

Tanja Kulkies is Black Diamond Europe's marketing coordinator and also one of their most passionate climbers, spending most of her summer weekends scaling the high peaks of the Alps (not a bad place for a climber to work!). Below is a short email from her most recent five-star alpine jaunt, this time up the east ridge of Switzerland's Piz Palü.

piz palu

Hi over there... yesterday my colleagues Thomas Wanner (Customer Sales and Service), Andreas Kuhne (Warranty & Return), Res Bähler from Go Vertical and myself climbed on the Piz Palü (3905m) over the east ridge. This mountain has 3 peaks and is my favorite in the Engadin (Switzerland) – I have been on this mountain twice and crossed all its peaks, and have also done several other summits in the Palü area. Since 2 years ago I wished to climb the Piz Palü summit over the east ridge and thanks to my colleagues and Res, we did it.
Waking up at 3.30 am is always hard but as soon as I started crossing the glacier I was just in another world and enjoyed the beauty and silence around me – the ice, the snow and finally the rock. The ridge is an alpine 4-, and thanks to perfect weather conditions and perfect snow on top of the ridge we had an extremely enjoyable climb up to the summit.
If you are ever in Switzerland – check out the Engadin. It’s one of the places where you wanna be as a mountaineer!
