Cheapest, most ghetto crampon ever?

Pep Olle, our sales agent in Spain, sent us the following email and photos of what has to be the cheapest, most ghetto crampon set-up ever.

Hello,

I met two Argentinians on the way to Aneto—the highest summit in the Pyrenees. There is a small glacier to cross and one of them was using the worst crampon I have ever seen. A piece of wood with some screws! Inox????

Best regards,

Pep

    Another mountain McGyver...

If you take a close look at it and you will see that he dedicated a lot of time. They are light, expendable, and with 10 "spikes". However, his beta version does show some errors such as the poor strapping, low durability and they are too wide. Thus maybe 12 spikes might have been better.

...If we think the golden age climbers went up with little more than this.

In all I would tell to this guy: Thanks. People like you keep the Guardia Civil SAR team employed and well trained.

Looks like it would add a bit of float to the boot so it doesn't post hole in soft snow.

When it's your life on the line, you do what you've gotta do. I'd take a board and some wood screws over nothing at all any day!!! lol
