How-to Video: Trimming your Fall 2010 Skins

If you have a new pair of our Fall 2010 skins with STS, watch this video to learn how to properly set'em up—cut the skins to length, attach the adjustable tip loop, trim the skins to match your skis’ sidecut and adjust the tip loop. [IMPORTANT NOTE: If you have STS skins that are pre-Fall 09, follow the instructions that come with the skins]

Chris - if you start centered and then follow their instructions, you will be shifting the skin let's say, left 2mm to make the second cut, then putting it back to the right 1mm after you have cut it. If you want to be super careful, maybe start with it 1mm to one side...I'm not really sure how you're getting 4cm offset...maybe mm makes sense...

Great video. Thanks for posting. Took me about 45 min to do the first one, and under 15 for the 2nd.

Why cut the cheat sheet in half? Just stick one skin to each side.

    Hey hey-

Thanks for a great video. But I "think" I found a problem when working w/ split skins.

At the end of the video, it says to be sure that when cutting splits, you start with the skin centered, then make the first cut. But if you start w/ a centered split skin, cut one side, then reposition the other side w/ the offset, and then cut the second side.....you wind up with a second side that is more narrow in the sts than the side you cut first. To compound things, this inequality is greatest underfoot where the ski is most narrow. On my 185 Justices, I wind up w/ ~3cm of skin on one side and ~4cm on the other, underfoot. Maybe this will be plenty of grip and I won't notice it, but I wonder if I'll have worse grip on the skinnier side when it's the uphill ski.

Two possible adjustments for this: either cut BOTH sides initially when you have the skin centered, then do two small offsets and cut small amounts both times; or, don't attach the skins exactly even before making the first cut. In the latter case, you'd initially attach them off-center by 4ish cm (if my math's right) before making the cut, and you'd cut the side w/ more skin sticking out. But those are some pretty fine measurements, so it's probably the bigger hassle.

I could be off in my logic- maybe I just did it wrong? It's been a while since I bought anything but a pre-cut skin....

Pray for snow out East- we're hurtin'.

If a picture is worth a thousand words, what is a video worth? The video explains it perfectly!
    Thanks
