VIDEO: BD athlete Zack Giffin profiled in Downhill Affair: A Love Story

Black Diamond athlete Zack Giffin and his partner Molly Baker are the focus of the video below, a finalist at the Banff Film Festival. Far different from a normal ski video, this one tackles the personal challenges that front Giffin and Baker as they pursue their lives together and their passions for skiing—which at times, predictably, come into conflict.

I wish you both the BEST! Only "you"(both of you) can decide whats right and best for your relationship! It has been amazing to see the progression in the sport because of you two top athletes! God bless and Godspeed! I really hope you both get to achieve your dreams!!!

I think Zack is living a somewhat selfish dream and Molly is right to be concerned. How long is being a pro skier sustainable? One injury or the next young gun and the camera's will shift focus with the speed of shutter and they won't look back. I've worked and skied the backcountry as a guide for 20 years and am now married with 2 kids. I still do it but my focus has shifted. Don't miss out on the best adventure of life - LOVE!

If this love story ends with a ski accident, dunno. But I realize that for some people adventure is defined by taking bigger and bigger risks. Others will disagree, but for me, forcing a consequence on somebody who loves me is just not in my nature.

Living the Dream (skiing for a living) means dealing with reality - injury, death, travel, always pushing, selling yourself to sponsors but as a near 40 year old teacher with children I would swap with you in an instant because a life without adventure is not a life well lived. Molly and Zack - just think about how good a skier your kids could be, if it all works out. Carpe Deum.
