BD athlete Angel Collinson wins overall 2010 title at Freeskiing World Tour
Black Diamond athlete Angel Collinson won the championship stop of the Freeskiing World Tour at her home mountain of Snowbird, Utah, which also secured her the overall title for 2010! Not bad for her first year on the tour...
Below is the email and photos Angel sent us after the event. Congratulations, Angel!

Man, I’m not even sure how to start describing the last stop of the Subaru Freeskiing World Tour. The final stop was the Championships, here at Snowbird. We’ve had the championships here at the Bird pretty often over the past decade, and ever since I was little watching it, the word BIG was what came to mind. Big crowds, big venue, big cliffs, and even bigger skiing. All of that held true last weekend, where the snow was really firm but there was good cover, so going big was an option, but you had to grab your cajones (if I had them) and hang on. I came in to this competition tied for 1st in the overall with fellow BD athlete Jacqui Edgerly, so there was a bit of pressure to perform, but to be tied with her felt more like camaraderie than anything else. On day 1 the venue was Silverfox, and the snow was as firm as it has been all year, and despite the nerves I threw down and skied solid, winning that day by over 2 points.
The next day was on Baldy, a really long run with the most difficult sections at the bottom. I was feeling really good and skied the line I inspected, winning that run as well. One more run was left: the Superfinals. It was about 2:00 in the afternoon, and the top 5 girls were standing at the top, amped up and ready to go. Looking at the crowd way down below, there were so many people it looked like a Walmart parking lot. Really cool. I ended up winning the Championships, as well as the Overall. In honor of one of the world’s greatest and most inspiring skiers, Shane McConkey, this year the overall is called the McConkey cup, and it was such an honor to win not only the overall, but an award that is a momentous tribute to the progression of skiing. I also won the North Face Young Gun Overall, which recognizes the overall best skier of the year under the age of 21.
To have such a culmination of success at my home mountain and win the overall my first year competing in big mountain comps is an incredible feeling, and I can’t wait for the whole thing to start again next year!
