Built for the variable, moderate terrain of classic mountaineering routes in places like the Tetons, the Alps and the Cascades, the Black Diamond Serac Crampon is a lightweight, 12-point crampon available in three different configurations to be compatible with any kind of mountain boot. The Serac's redesigned stainless steel construction incorporates a strong, yet light design with rocker in the front rail to accommodate modern mountain boots. Horizontal frontpoints provide secure bite in icy steps, while the classic secondary points and substantial rear points offer stability on descents and low-angle terrain.

  • Redesigned stainless steel construction is durable, resists snowballing and won’t rust
  • Versatile horizontal frontpoints with classic secondary points and stable rear points
  • Low-profile micro-adjust heel bail offers precision fit
  • Pro version is for technical boots; Clip version is for mountain boots without a toe welt; Strap version is for non-technical footwear
  • For use on a ski boot, you will want to order wide toe bails sold separately
  • Includes front and rear dual-density ABS

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This might be overkill for my needs Got the strap version. Purchased this model due to the additional holes on the side of the fwd crampon. I figured if I need better control of the crampon, I could use the trailing hole on the side of the crampon to tie over the boot. This boot overhangs 3 inches per side. Of course I also purchased the large center bar. This is not for technical activity. I have a trip in January to Svalbard. Average temperature then is -40 C which is also -40 F. Polar bears to people are 2 to 1. From what I researched, boot mfg and ice traction mfg don't talk to one another. Each one is in their own little world and the other one doesn't exist. I would have gone for the Contact model except it doesn't have the additional side holes. The mandatory questions in this review are irrelevant to my quest

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love this product I bought this product a week before hiking Mt Whitney, Lone Pine, CA. I was able to get through the chute early morning with confidence. Serac Crampons did not add much weight, kept my feet securely planted in the snow/ice, and allowed me to confidently hike up the chute. I had no problems using this product and would recommend it for anyone who is planning to hike in similar conditions.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome! Climbed Mt. Rainier using Black Diamond Crampons. The performed well in the snow, ice, rock assents and back down through the melting slush. Not sure I would be alive today if I didn't have my Black Diamond Crampons on to help safely navigate the ice-fields. Thank you Black Diamond!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well Made I bought these to deal with hard-pack and ice in the white mountains of NH during my winter hikes, micro spikes get you so far but at some point you have to switch to crampons. I ordered the strap option so I can use these on my Danner Mtn Light II leather boots and Scarpa Inverno plastic boots. No issues so far, I can put them on fairly quickly and I bought the Mission 55 pack so I can slip them into the crampon pouch on the outside for easy access and no worries of getting any of my gear wet/punctured. These should last me a long time, all stainless so no rust to deal with, just need to hit them with a file every so often.
