DescriptionOur most versatile belay/rappel device, the Black Diamond ATC-Guide is now even lighter thanks to windows machined through the body. We also enlarged the auto-block release hole to accept a small carabiner. Multiple friction modes provide the optimal amount of stopping power when lowering or rappelling, and the device's guide mode lets you belay one or two seconding climbers off an anchor.
- Multiple friction modes for belay and rappel
- Machined windows through device for weight savings
- Auto-block release hole accepts small carabiners
- Durable cable holds its shape and resists getting caught up between ropes
- Guide mode works with one or two climbers
- ascending and descending
- Dependable and smooth operation in all conditions, handling ropes from 7.7 to 11 mm

Rated 5 out of 5 by andreoktav from All-around device I got this in 2009 and still using it. It's a lightweight belay device. Great device whether you're a beginner or pro climber. I used it to train my belay catch/reflex before I tried the assisted-braking device. It's very useful when you rappel with double rope. The guide mode is a plus for multi-pitch or belaying from the top.

Rated 5 out of 5 by climbingLlama from Great device for Begineers; Value for Money This is my first belay device. I had been climbing for almost 6 months, only then decided to buy this. Since I got to use 4-5 different type of devices with multiple different diameters of ropes in the initial 6 months. I choose this because: 1. It brakes good with ropes of wide range of dia 2. Value for money 3. It has guide mode Only negative feedback is with lower end Beal ropes that are old, giving slack is a pain.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Har Rai from Fantastic all-around device Really great design. Love the guide functionality that's been added while avoiding adding much mass. Works great for everything from gym climbing to outdoor multipitch to repelling on smaller static cord when doubled up on a single slot. My go-to for sure.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Thomas C from Excellent So far so good...Both the standard and friction modes work well. Friction mode is great for newbie lead belayers to add confidence when playing catch. I have not used guide mode yet but look forward to it... Device is disturbingly light!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Bestbuilder from Handles thicker ropes better This is my every day, at the crag, gym or out on the rock when using tough thicker ropes. It wears much better than the lighter aluminum devices. This one is tough and dependable. What more can you ask for?

Rated 5 out of 5 by Ward from seems like it's beefier than a few years back I think the design changes will result in a longer lasting and smoother belaying device. Holes in the side significantly reduces excess heat on the rope resulting in less wear.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Matt from Standard Equipment I like this better than the Petzl Reverso because it is thicker and the Reverso can develop a sharp edge after long term use.
