Our women's-specific harness with a super-durable and comfortable design, the Ethos is optimized for high-end free climbing and trad cragging. It offers premium padding and abrasion resistance and is built with our Kinetic Core Construction™. Learn More

A women's-specific version of our standard-setting Chaos, the Black Diamond Ethos harness is a super-comfortable, super-durable trad climbing harness ideal for everything from cragging at Index to going big in Patagonia. The Ethos features a women's-specific bullhorn-shaped waistbelt built with our Kinetic Core Construction, which uses a thin layer of Vectran fibers in place of traditional webbing to evenly distribute weight across the waist and legs. Four pressure-molded gear loops hold all your cams, slings and on-route essentials, and the front two loops are oversized for optimized racking. A Forged Speed Adjust buckle makes for easy on and off, while the rear 12kN-rated haul loop secures your tag line.

  • Pre-threaded Forged Speed Adjust waistbelt buckle
  • Women's-specific bullhorn-shaped waistbelt built using Kinetic Core Construction
  • Waistbelt and leg loops feature abrasion-resistant shell and a soft, padded 3D mesh interior
  • Four pressure-molded gear loops with slightly larger front loops, 12kN-rated haul loop
  • Adjustable, releasable elastic rear risers
Kinetic Core Construction

Kinetic Core Construction™

Kinetic Core Construction isn't just another step in harness design—it's a quantum leap. Kinetic Core Construction eliminates the need for narrow strands of structural webbing by using a tri-laminate of Vectran™ polymer to distribute the load evenly throughout the harness's entire structure.

Harness Comparision

Ethos Harness - Women's is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 8.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Waist runs bigger than other models I have used the primrose harness for a couple years and wanted to upgrade to something more comfortable with slightly bigger gear loops to better accomodate a trad rack. I also liked the fact that it had nonadjustable leg loops to make things simpler and more comfortable. I haven't yet climbed with it but am sad that the size runs larger than my previous harness. The harness fits well cinched at its smallest but I am worried that with a full rack weighing the harness down, I won't be able to make it any smaller to stay up on my hips. The primrose XS range is 24-27" while the ethos XS is 26-29". The harness is really comfortable and I like the features but why did you change the size BD? I'm nervous it will be too big

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Wish the leg loops were adjustable! I really liked this harness but the leg loops for the XS were too small, and the S harness was too big for me in the waist. Would love if this harness were made with adjustable leg loops. I ended up just going back to the Primrose again because it's the only BD harness with big enough gear loops for trad that fits me...

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fits differently than Primrose I wanted to try out a different harness after wearing out the Primrose harness. I wear an XS in Primrose (waist is about 27-28"). I ordered an XS and even though the waist fit, my thighs did not! The loops are not as adjustable, but I reordered a S and it fit great. I like that the Ethos harness feels sturdy but still comfortable.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very confortable This harness is very confortable while you are climbing: you don't even feel it. Be careful with the sizes because you may not be able to have the optimal waist and leg sizes at the same time. The only thing that I found weard is that the gear loops are only in the sides and non of them in the back or going more to the back where I like to keep the equipment that I don't use while climbing like the ATC when I'm cleaning a route.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from nice harness but kind of hard to take a leak in while wearing I like the fact that the gear loops are pretty big - but could use one more on each side. The width of the leg loops and waist belt also make it more comfortable for hanging in than the less expensive/sport harnesses. The leg loop attachers are hard to un-clip and re-clip if you want to go to the bathroom while wearing the harness. Especially for a trad harness, leg loops should be made to easily un-clip and re-clip.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A little more harness than I wanted... Overall, I like this harness. As others have said, it is simple and functional. The leg loops are excellent - a nice width, well fitting, and very comfortable. However, the waist is far too large for me. I'm 5'9" and 130lbs and according to the size chart I should wear a size S waist. Figuring that adding a layer or two would tip the scale, I went with the S. The harness is nearly dangerously big on my waist and doesn't sit correctly. Because it sinks below my natural waistline, the gear loop construction (sprouting out of the bottom seam of the harness) causes the plastic loops to press painfully against my hipbones when fully loaded with trad gear (and forget climbing shirtless with no padding on my hips). If you are on the edge, I would highly suggest sizing down.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Comfortable and clean design This harness is so comfortable. Hanging belays are no problem and it feels like it fits a women body well. It is durable and I like the simplicity of it all.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So Comfortable + So Functional The Ethos is rad! Just got one after having the Momentum for a few years. I was a bit worried about the non-adjusting leg loops(I've got medium sized female thighs, not small), but they turned out to fit great and are very flexible. Big gear loops up front are awesome! And it's ultra comfy, perfect for hanging belays, but not bulky- fine for sport, gym, everything!
