Speed 40 Pack is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 17.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worked great - Mt Adams Glacier and Mt Baker, Easton Gl. I bought this pack for 2-3 day objectives and I was very happy with it. It was a great size to haul tent, sleeping bag and stove closer to the climb, and then compress down on the climb. It's not too strappy, the reinforced crampon pad is reassuring. It's light but carries supportively. Mine had the detachable top and it allowed the pack to extend well for more volume. I bought the small because it just measured out to my back and I like compact, (it's actually 38L) and the chest strap rode high on my chest. The medium may be better if you like the chest strap lower. But it was overall a terrific pack that performed very well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This pack is bomb proof. Purchased this pack about 8 months ago and since then I have put it through the wringer. I work as a glacier guide in a rainforest in AK and use this pack for my trips carrying a 30m rope, axe, harness, crampons, helmet, medkit, extra layers for clients, and food. I used it 6 or 7 days a week for the entire summer and it's barely worn at all. I've seen packs worn through in a month with this job. Now that summers over I use it as my touring pack and it easily fits all I need for an overnight tour into the backcountry. I have one gripe and it's the lack of a good way to carry a Nalgene on the outside of this pack. It has camel back adaptability, though.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hands down, one of my favorite pieces... The Speed 40 has been my go to pack for three years now. The same pack has been up peaks in the Cascades, abraded on walls in Yosemite, and stuffed full of gear for multiday ski and backpacking trips. After all this time the pack has suffered minimal aesthetic damage and functions as well as the first day I pulled it from the box. Despite its sweat stained and grungy appearance I still love throwing my cams in it for a day of cragging. I expect more years out of this pack and will replace it immediately if it ever needs to be retired.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Pack I have three Speed packs (30, 40, 50) that I purchased after trying one that a client was using. I love the minimal junk hanging on the outside as I like uncluttered function rather than a lot of unnecessary gadgets, pockets and widgets on the outside. The one downside is that the top pocket and seams are not at all waterproof in a downpour (as I discovered last summer). I purchased seam sealer and sealed everything up which has altered the appearance to a degree, but I don't care. The function is what really matters to me and the speed line has it all in spades. Would warrant a five star rating but for this issue. I would certainly recommend the Speed line to anyone who values function, reasonable weight and clean lines.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Superb Pack Bought this pack upon the recommendation of AMGA guide Brian Smith. Super light weight and well designed. This is the FIRST pack I have ever used that didn't leave hot spots somewhere on me. Super comfortable. A true minimalist's pack. My first trip with it was 4 days on the Appalachian Trail in January. I was able to carry everything I needed. In warmer temps, I think I could get 5-6 days out of it. My only recommendation for improvement is to somehow make the hip belt buckle more resistant to loosening over time. I'm stoked about this pack and would buy it again.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Lightweight, sturdy pack perfect for alpine The Speed 40 came highly recommended to me by a few friends, and I'm happy with my choice. However, the frame and straps are pretty sturdy and don't seem to give even after 100+ hours of use. The straps and hip belt aren't very forgiving for women's figures, either. The features, weight, and durable material of this pack all hit the mark for me - but I wouldn't recommend this product to curvier women or women looking for a female-friendly design.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Pack I can't say enough good things about this pack, it is a very well thought out piece of equipment and after several years of use I still am very happy with it. It carries heavy loads well, ropes attach very securely, skis pack nicely on the side, and the sewn in gear loops are handy for glacier travel. I use this guy for everything, hands down best pack I've ever had. I may be wrong, but this sure seems like it was designed by a climber. It's hard imaging being this excited about a pack, but they got this one right.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent pack with versatile applications I bought this pack for crag days and short alpine trips. I recently used it on a 3 night ultra-light slot canyon outing in Utah. I removed the framesheet and bivy pad, lid, and extra straps and got the pack weight down to just under 2lbs! (1.14oz). The sleek, no frills pack profile helped me squeeze through tight spots in the canyon and the fabric held up without be too heavy. At night I was able to use the empty pack as a torso sleeping pad. When I got home I loaded it down and began preparing for a 14eer trip. Super happy with this pack.
