Description

Whether teching your way up a run-out granite slab or hucking laps on the splitters at Indian Creek, the Aspect is an engineered trad climbing machine. Built with the highest grade European leather upper, the Aspects balance comfort with performance using innovative designs that subtly set it apart. Lace up a pair and you’ll notice that the leather upper slightly covers the laces on the outside of the foot—specifically designed for protection during abrasive jamming. The shoe’s tongue is made from our Engineered Knit Technology, which adds breathability and comfort. The knit also extends to the outside of the shoe to just under the rand line to offer extra padded protection for foot jams. The lateral stabilizer rands increase precision by keeping your foot from rolling when pressure is applied to the outside or inside edges. The Aspect’s stiff and durable NeoFriction Force rubber is unique in that it’s molded—inspired by the way we forge our carabiners—and not cut from one sheet of rubber. This is our engineered solution to optimize our shoe’s rubber and rands for weight, consistency and comfort. The Aspect's medium-flex midsole adds support without sacrificing comfort. So next time you’re eyeing that trad line, consider the Aspects a part of your rack. Get the whole story here.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Mostly Fantastic! The Aspect is a fantastic shoe for what it was made for. It edges very well, the rubber performed great on slabs, stiff enough for me on overhangs, and was excellent for me on crack climbs. The leather is incredibly soft and tongue is very breathable. The asymmetric design of the lacing is very helpful. The only downside I had with these was the fact that it doesn't fit very well for people with Morton's toe (second toe is the longest toe) even when sizing up a little due to the design of the toe box, causing me a bit more discomfort than I would like. Really amazing otherwise. Great job BD.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Performs with the best! I’ve had these shoes now for almost two months and have been able to climb both inside and outside with them! Fit and comfort of these shoes is amazing. Performance is just as good. Fits and performs a lot like the tc pro which was my last favorite shoes. The shoe heel hooks better than any shoe I’ve tried before. Wasn’t able to try them on before purchase so I went with the advice and ordered my normal shoe size as it said on the website. Could have probably used a half size smaller but pretty acute nonetheless! Glad to see BD stepping into the shoe market! Can’t wait to see what’s next!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Technical, comfortable All around great shoe. Purchased as my second shoe, for longer climbing days vs my Miuras. I am a 9.5, bought a 9, they are tight, and can rub on the achilles a bit, but broke in well. If you wanted an easy fit out of the box go with your shoe size, they do stretch a bit so if you are looking for a technical fit, your shoe size might stretch out a bit. Overall they do everything for me that I don't like doing with my Miuras. They can handle multi pitch, good crack climbing, great slab, and even some overhung stuff when needed on certain routes (though i'd choose Miuras for routes mostly overhung and bouldering)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Too narrow These shoes had all of the features I wanted for a trad climbing shoe. I was super excited for them, but a little nervous about them being to narrow for my Flintstone feet (most climbing shoes are). These ended up being even more narrow than the la sportiva TC Pro's. I'm sure they're an awesome shoe, but my foot literally didn't fit in then width-wise. Black diamond, if you want to take a niche market by storm, make some actually wide climbing shoes. You'll make millions.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid edging shoe I’m very happy with the precision with which the Aspects edge. They’re comfortable but seemed small for the size. The training mentioned that the Momentums sized small, so I only sized down my Aspects half a size (as opposed to the full size I do in other brands). They were quite snug, despite my relatively conservative sizing. Sticky rubber on these is fantastic.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good First Impression Well constructed and a true to street size fit. I think BD went in the right direction when designing this Trad specific shoe. It is very stiff and has a well padded upper that allows for a comfortable jamming platform. The rubber so far seems to perform well, and I have no complaints about the friction. There is dead space in the heel that is common in other shoes that I have used with Butroa rubber, but that does not seem to affect there performance. I really like the detail of putting the lower, outer eyelets under the leather upper to protect the laces when jamming!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Built for Trad-climbing, Great Overall I bought the Aspect as my multi pitch shoe and as a huge black diamond fan I had high expectations. The Aspect out preformed my expectations in every way. I had confident foot work on everything from greasy basalt to sharp granite whether I was foot jamming in a crack, pushing of small edges, or smearing. Best of all the Aspect were surprisingly comfortable while belaying on multi-pitch. I am not a big trad-climber but, I still appreciate the little details Black Diamond added to the Aspect such as the covering the laces near the toe box to protect the laces from sharp cracks. I sized my Aspects down about a half size from my normal shoes and they broke in after about a week.of use. Overall the Aspect is an awesome trad shoe and great all purpose shoe with the added bonus of looking really good on your feet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from SUPER comfortable shoe! Tried this shoe out a few times so far and I'm extremely happy with how comfortable they are in comparison to all of the other shoes I've owned. They felt instantly comfortable the minute I put them on. They do feel fairly stiff, but I know once I've climbed in them a bit more they will soften up. I have a narrow foot and they fit perfectly, but my boyfriend (who sadly has the same shoe size as me) was not able to get his wide feet into them. They may be a bit narrow for anyone with a wide foot. The rubber doesn't feel quite as sticky as some of the other shoes I've owned in the past, but I also feel like I might just be getting used to them still. I climbed some fairly tough stuff (for my ability level) and never felt like they were inadequate. Overall, a great shoe if you're looking for something to wear on long climbing days!
