Back To Experience

Welcome to the Team: Sean Bailey

Friday, April 6, 2018
At just 21 years old, Sean Bailey has proven himself a formidable force to be reckoned with. From his comp crushing abilities in lead and bouldering on both the National and World Cup circuit, to his brief, but explosive efforts on real rock—he clipped chains on Biographie/Realization (5.15a) in roughly 12 tries—Bailey has been quietly, yet aggressively ticking off achievements that most would consider goals of a lifetime. But the scary thing is … he’s just getting started. We can’t wait to see what goes down next.

For Sean Bailey, climbing is all about creative expression.

“I find that why I like climbing so much is that there’s so many different ways you can express yourself,” he says.

And for Bailey, there’s no shortage of outlets.

Whether he’s winning the National Championship in lead climbing for the second time (as he just did last month), bouldering on the World Cup circuit, route setting, coaching, or climbing 5.15 outside, Sean “Steezy” Bailey’s intense creative output is already causing considerable buzz in the world of climbing.

Hailing from Seattle, Bailey is a second-generation climber that started climbing when he was just four or five, he reckons. From those early forays on the granite slabs in the PNW with his parents, Bailey became involved in a local Youth Climbing Team at Seattle’s famed Vertical World, and from there, his talent for powerful, ultra-hard moves on both plastic and rock grew.

Now at age 21, while flying largely under the radar, Bailey has become one of the most talented climbers of his generation, and with the ticklist to match. But he’s only just getting started.

We’re so stoked to welcome Sean Bailey into the BD family, and can’t wait to see where his creativity and next-level abilities lead him next.
