Rated 5 out of 5 by rob from Versatile and harness-friendly shell I have used this shell for a number of long days in the mountains in blustery conditions and I found that it climbs well and keeps the conditions at bay. From dripping ice climbs to long alpine slogs in the wind, this shell has kept me warm and stoked. The pockets are easily accessible while wearing a harness. The hood is comfortable even with a climbing helmet on, and the soft shell construction allows any climbing motion to be uninhibited. The texture of the fabric also is durable, and I haven't noticed any 'catching' or micro-tears from abrasion. This is a very breathable, durable, flexible shell that climbs well and is great for higher intensity efforts. I am 6'1" and 175lbs and the medium is perfect. For perspective Patagonia shells in medium are usually too tight around the shoulders by a touch, but this BD medium offers a bit more shoulder room and fits perfectly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Byette from Our guides uniform This jacket is a perfect fall, winter, spring everyday jacket. We choose it to be our guides uniform because it is simply amazing. We all love it. The inner pockets are really useful.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Mackw from Great Jacket, better customer service I got stuck down in Salt lake without a shell and BD store hooked me up with this jacket. If it was just for the customer service alone I would recommend Black Diamond they have treated me so well and warranty service is bar none Now for the jacket. This is a fenominal touring jacket and I have been using it a lot since. Its very breathable with big front pockets that also double as vents if you leave them empty. the material is great at resisting abrasions for a soft shell!

Rated 4 out of 5 by Anthony from Well constructed piece Transparency note: I have only worn the garnment around town and indoors. We’re still waiting on snow here in the Northeast. The overall construction of the jacket is nice. Solid seems, quality sewing, decently burly Velcro cuffs, weighted zipper. Fabric is of quality feel, stretch and provides good movement. The DWR treatment provides less beading than I expected. I know it’s not a rain shell but I wanted a bit more repellency. Helmet compatible hood is as described. I’ve tried it on with both a climbing helmet and ski helmet. Both fit well. Length of the jacket is nice. Longer torso than expected but good for fitting well underneath a climbing or skimo harness. Single elastic drawcord is nice and ticks away neatly so as my to interfere with gear. Sleeves are however awkwardly long. With only a base layer the jacket feels too large (I’m 140lbs, 5’7” and wear a small in almost every company.) With the cuffs tightened properly, there is IMHO too much material bunching around the wrists. With shoulder season glove choices (Kingpin) there might be too much material to properly snug the cuff enough to get a glove gauntlet over. Breathability is better than expected. Even in humid environments. With an additional mid layer the jacket fits better and presumably as designed. Looking forward to putting this thing through a season of guiding!

Rated 4 out of 5 by BJ from Highly breathable for High-Output adventures This has become my staple for dry, sunny and (sometimes warm) bc and resort adventures. My first outing with this was a 5-day hut trip in the Gore Wilderness. Long uphill slog with a big BC pack on, this shell performed well while skinning and sweating. the next few days, it snowed (yay!) and bounced from 15-32F. The shell worked well with thin layering and still allowed me to breathe as it warmed up. One thing I noticed is that the DWR is good, but not impermeable as the snow would melt and not evaporate quickly near my shoulders and forearms. The flip side is that this shell dries quickly enough that I could come in for a quick lunch or beer and by the time I was finished it was fully ready for the next session. I recommend this for dryer climes like CO and Utah, and especially for bright days up high. I live in PNW now and would take this out on sunny days, definitely not in the wintry mix we sometimes get.
