Rated 5 out of 5 by PHILIP from Was excellant - now even better I've been using gre-tex shells since they were invented in New England on Mt Washington which is notorious for sudden blasts of arctic weather to Swirtzerland, on 400 meter + peaks and Nepal to Everest. Black Diamond gear is among the best and the present Sharp End Shell is a significant improvement. It's cut roomier, allowing layering of insulation such as the Cold Forge hooded down withoth free movement. The pockets (that are vanishing from competing shells) are great - you can have fast access to a cell or satellite phone , and tow gloves when needed. Hood works without cutting off vision. all in all it's great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by WVMountaineer from Best of any brand I have tried! Worth every penny. I have several hardshell jackets, but I believe the BD Sharp End is the best of the bunch. Everything you could want from a shell is provided in one high-quality jacket: very low pack weight, supreme weather protection, fantastic mobility for climbing or skiing, and durability for hard use. I am 6'0", 190 with an athletic, but muscular build. For BD layers, I am a solid XL. I ordered this in Large since the cut is more generous as a shell. My recommendation is to size down if you are using modern layering insulation underneath (not the big, puffy down). It is cut with plenty of room for layers.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Charles from Great Jacket, large sizing I bought a Sharp End shell in 2016 and it was the best jacket I've ever owned. The fit was perfect. It always kept me dry, it was light and felt durable. I sent it to be replaced because a seam began to tear. Black Diamond sent me a new one right away (great customer service). The 2018 version has the same specs and feel BUT it's quite larger than my old one. I'm 5'9'' and 165lbs (athletic) and the Medium is now too large ; the sleeves are too long and the length is longer than the 2016 version. I feel like I'm floating in it even with my Arcteryx Atom LT under. I like my jackets on the slimmer fit side and I'm very disappointed that the fit has been changed that much because the 2016 version was perfect! I tried a Small in store and the sleeves and overall size is more fitted for me but the size at the hips is too tight. I'll look elsewhere until the overall BD fit is changed again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Oscar from Best jacket you can possible get. Best jacket I've owned. The green is super good looking. Also, the size L is perfect for me (190 cm, 95 kg). Perfect as a hard shell in nasty conditions where one just have a primaloft under the jacket. Perfect as a standalone jacket, does not take up to much space in the back back in case of rain during the summer. After having bought this jacket this is the single jacket i use. Doesn't matter if it is in a storm out in the winter (with a primaloft under), or in the rain on the way to work. As said, best jacket ever.

Rated 5 out of 5 by gzrommel from Unbeatable I bought this jacket in order to climb Mont Blanc and was blown away with its versatility. I spent the whole 36 hours on the mountain in this jacket. At the base, while it was raining, I wore it as rain shell with the vents open and was extremely comfortable. At higher altitudes I added a few under layers and continued to summit in it with rain and snow coming down. The whole entire way I was dry and warm. On top of that despite rubbing up against rock during the scramble up the material held up amazingly. Finally, when I put it in my bag at the end of the day it packed down so small and was so light it felt like nothing was there. Overall, I cannot recommend this jacket enough. It was a product that will last me for a lifetime that I will take with me on all of my future adventures.

Rated 5 out of 5 by AJ Landshark from Superior quality garment Bought this jacket (black L) for use at work. I'm a biologist living in Hawaii who is outside in wet conditions almost every day and I have put my fair share of outdoor equipment to the test in terms of durability and performance among the elements. This jacket is definitely the most well-constructed I've used. It's very simple, meaning basic pockets and features, which might bore some folks but the Goretex Pro material is clearly better than everything else and very light for how tough it is. I recently wore the jacket while hiking Ben Nevis peak in Scotland and was amazed at the performance in high winds and rain. I now want to get matching pants. I bought the large which I like but could probably have fit perfectly into the medium. I do like the fact that I can wear my down coat beneath the large with comfort when necessary. I'm 5'11 and 175 lbs athletic build and typically bounce between medium and large in similar apparel from other brands.

Rated 5 out of 5 by James from This review is for fit and features! First off, Black Diamond customer service is amazing and probably the most helpful I have ever experienced. They helped make my two month hunt for the perfect shell a success. I am 26 years old, 6'1, 180 - 185 pounds depending on the month. Athletic build with broader shoulders and typically wear a Medium in everything. I have tried on several shells from every outdoor brand on the US market and was recommended one specific (Very expensive) shell by several people but couldn't reconcile the price tag on it for what I was getting *let the reader use discernment*. Finally, at the end of my rope, when I was about to settle with a shell I was not satisfied with, there was Black Diamond with a fantastic deal on this shell! I bit the bullet and paid a higher price and boy oh boy am I glad I did... Finally a jacket that fits! FINALLY! No baggy arms, no poofy torso that makes you look like you have a beer gut (Unless you do have a beer gut...) or a hunch back, no hood that falls over your eyes when its uncinched, no arms that are too long! All the features I need in the fit I need in one jacket! Thick 70d Nylon construction, Slightly raised hand pockets! Inner and outer chest pockets! Pit zips! Totally cinchable! 3 layer Gore Pro! All the room I need for layering with none of the room I don't need! Looks good with one layer on with enough room for more! All hail Black Diamond! Photos and function to follow.

Rated 5 out of 5 by juice from Love It This is my jacket that I use while backpacking in the rain. It is definitely not the lightest rain jacket, but when you are going to Alaska, you can't use anything else but heavy duty Goretex. The rain bounces right off this jacket, it fits nicely, and I love the way there are two zippers on the pit zips. As far as Goretex jackets go, I'd say this is relatively lightweight for how bomb proof it seems.
