WHY ACTIVE suspension?

WHY ACTIVE suspension?

Black Diamond packs built with our award-winning active suspension systems—ergoACTIV, ergoACTIV XP, reACTIV and reACTIV XP—are unparalleled in comfort, efficiency and load transfer. Because the shoulder straps and hipbelt move with you, friction and hot spots are eliminated. The pack’s load stays perfectly balanced at all times—without adjustment—and allows your body to move naturally in any direction. This results in a more efficient, comfortable, longer stride—meaning you can cover more ground, more quickly.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from No directions for attaching waistband Backpack arrived excited to try it but couldn’t get the waistband attached. No directions, feature description, warranty info...nothing in the box but a disassembled backpack that appears impossible to put together. Disappointing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works Quite Well! My wife and I have been backbacking for 20 years mostly in AK doing numerous trips each summer and I was able to test the pack for the first time this past weekend on an over-nighter in the Wrangells. Steep consistant all day thigh burn with a moderate load was a good test. My previous trekking pack was the BD Quantum 55. I've always favored top loaders but the ease of loading and unloading this pack is much less complicated with well placed pockets, sleeves and such. The pack rotated beautifully on my hips and I could feel the advantage of the system on my hips going up. I am not nearly as sore in the hips as in the past after such an effort. This is good stuff as you spend less energy "balancing" as the pack counters gravity as you lean to either side. All the straps and pockets look good. It's my first time with these type of zippers so time will tell about durabliity along with a dose a patience when the pack is really loaded. My wife has the lady's version and she loves it. I wanted a pack for one to six night treks and this will work.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Excellent design with weak zippers I bought this back for 2-3 night backpacks and hut ski trips. I have used it on a dozen plus trips. I have a pack fetish and after extensive research it seemed to be perfect and would be if the zippers were stronger. The small zipper on the top failed before my first trip, I'd have returned it except for my 150 mile drive to find it. The main zipper, tho stronger, partially tore out this summer and totally failed on my latest ski outing. But I absolutely love its features, it's at the repair shop now.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Pack Very happy with my purchase so far. Comfortable on my first over-nighter, 24 mile trip and 6 - 4k peaks completed. The harness works well and the waist belt follows your side-to-side motion. Still getting use to the pack and adjustments. Seems well built, glad I picked up the 65 in lieu of the 55. Cons so far, could use a hydration tube clip on the left side of the shoulder strap instead of just having one on the right. Would also be great if it had more nylon loops on the backside of the pack to hang more gear if needed. Highly recommend this pack.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great backpack We went on a 3 night trip on the AT and enjoyed using the backpack, there are several interior pockets that were helpful in keeping small items available. I am 6'8" and 295 lbs. and the pack fit well and I felt it adjusted rather easily. We use hammocks so it had plenty of room for sleeping bag, hammock, food, clothes for 40 degree nights. I didn't have the need to check the water tight zippers but they were smooth and sturdy. A great pack.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A incredible fully feature pack. This pack is awesome. The swing arm straps and swiveling hip belt make this pack ride with you. The waste belt fits exceptionally well to my hips. It makes heavy loads easy to carry. I have used this pack a few times now and am totally stoked on it. It has all the organization and bells and whistled you could ask for while being streamlined just enough of non functional non sense. A great pack that surprised me with load transfer technology. Good job BD!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent pack ~ unable to push it's limits yet I've taken this pack out on 3 day-hikes so far, and have been consistently adding to the load each time, to see where the limit lies for a longer range expedition. So far, this pack doesn't seem to have any limits for those who tend to pack with minimalism in mind. In the next few weeks I plan on going "all out" with everything I would pack for a multi-day hike. Pros include; spacious interior, sleeping bag compression flap, supreme comfort, all the right straps in the right places without too much excess webbing and strapping. Cons (which I include only to present some balance) include; no directions on how to assemble the waist belt (a few minutes to figure out), difficult to use waterproof zippers (pretty standard for waterproof zippers) and the side pockets to bottles can have improperly situated bottles fall out, and difficult to use while the pack is worn. These, however, are all nitpicky. Essentially, this is a great pack for the multi-day adventure. Much more capacity than can used for 1-day outings, comfort for heavy loads, and a pocket/strap/opening configuration that makes sense.
