Z-Pole Rapid Deployment System

Z-Pole Rapid Deployment System

  • Concealed inner cord
  • Single push-button release to collapse the pole
  • One-pull, Speed Cone deployment

Speed Cone technology comes from our expertise in avalanche probe design—a key component of Z-Poles' stiffness and fast deployment. Simply grab the grip and the first shaft section, and pull them away from each other. The pole will snap into place and lock. Each Speed Cone guides a shaft section into place, and stiffens the joint when the pole is locked. Protective, flexible tube ends cover the pole’s Kevlar® center cord when folded.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wasatch 100 approved I used these for the Wasatch 100 (a 100 mile trail running race) which has 26k ft. of elevation gain. During the race I LOVED how light they are. Anyone who picked them up was surprised by how light they are. When needed they were easy to carry and use both in one hand while I used the other hand to eat snacks or access my water on the go. They break down and snap back together super easily. They felt solid once snapped together. For ultra running I can't think of anything that would make these poles better. They exceeded my expectations of what poles can be and they helped get me across the finish line. Thanks BD!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from So Good, except for the leash I purchased these for a R2R2R run in the Grand Canyon. I used them for a 2 training runs beforehand, and their total use was under a hundred miles. I really love how they handle for every condition I used them. The big flaw is the wrist leash. I wear a GPS watch when I run, and the leash frayed where it came in contact with it. The material of the leash is different from other webbing I've encountered on my other BD poles. It is very stiff, and once it frayed it was sharp, resulting in cuts on my wrist and forearm. I returned the poles to the place of purchase after my trip. I really, really like them though, and I'm hoping BD looks at this part of the design. I'd love to pick up a new pair if this was addressed.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Rusty buttons I bought these two weeks ago and have used them twice; first on a two days on Shasta, then on a three camping trip on the Lost Coast (CA). The poles are light, durable, and the grips are very comfortable. So why the 1 star review? The push-buttons are made of a cheap steal that will rust with just one day of exposure to humidity. I have to wipe them off constantly and they still are getting rust stains and build up. It's only a matter before they get pitted. So despite how much I love them, because of this one flaw AVOID THEM, they will not last if you use them in damp environments. 170$ and they give you cheap non-stainless steel for the buttons. This was most definitely a production oversight that could have been fixed with some reasonable field testing.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great but.... They were great for 870 miles, then the joint retracted into the upper section of one pole. Bummer. The lightness of the poles is fantastic. I've never had anything so wonderful. The baskets are too close to the tip--they catch on embedded rocks and roots. They would either jerk me back or yank the pole out of my hand, as dictated by my use of the wrist straps. The tip fell out. Maybe I should have checked every 5 miles to see if it was working its way out.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Prone to rust I love the poles, but hiking in the rain will cause the release buttons to rust, making the buttons almost impossible to use. Lubricate the buttons well if you plan to use them in all weather I wa surprised how quickly the rust developed. I expected stainless steel.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super Light I bought these poles a month ago after reviewing and trying as many different poles for running. I actually started with the adjustable Leki's which are also great, but I realized that I had purchased a size too large so I gave them to my husband. I finally went with the Carbon Z's (non adjustable) because a. I liked the way the grip felt, b. they are so light you forget you have them, c. they easily fold up small enough to stick in my pack. The only thing I preferred about the Leki's was the glove type grip rather than the loop which can get slightly uncomfortable on a long trek. The lighter weight won out in the long run (no pun intended) though.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing customer services ce I have had these poles for about 6 months. I am an avid hike and fly Paraglider and mountaineer. These pole are the best choice for ppl that are weight conscious. I broke one of the lower sections of the pole and I was blown away by the quality of black diamonds warranty support. Mike responded quickly once I had filled out the online form. It’s a relatively straightforward process, include descriptions and pictures... I received a response in less than 24 hours and a more than acceptable solution to the problem had been provided expediently. It is refreshing to have such a positive experience dealt by with warranty claims. keep it up Black Diamond!!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Still wonderful, but not as good as the older model The poles are amazingly light and easy to fold and unfold. However, the new straps are not as good as the older model. These new straps are polyester-like and on a long hike can irritate the hands; the older model had soft and supple leather-like straps that one could use all day with no irritation.
