Kinetic Core Construction

Kinetic Core Construction™

Kinetic Core Construction isn't just another step in harness design—it's a quantum leap. Kinetic Core Construction eliminates the need for narrow strands of structural webbing by using a tri-laminate of Vectran™ polymer to distribute the load evenly throughout the harness's entire structure.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great ice climbing harness! The Black Diamond Xenos Harness is sleek, comfortable, and well organized for ice climbing. As a minimalist, I am impressed with companies that provide options for streamlined equipment, which is why I continue to support Black Diamond products. After days of climbing ice in Cody and Lake Louise, I can confidently say that this harness is very comfortable and functional. My only suggestion for improvement is that the gear loops are not always equidistant due to one auto-locking buckle. I do not have a good solution in mind for this minor problem. More color choices would also be a nice addition! Great design, BD!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My Favorite Harness! I've been using this harness for a year now for all of my climbing and am in love with it! I'd originally bought this for multi-pitch and crag-style ice climbing but have found myself using it for multi-pitch trad and sport climbing as well. It's incredibly comfortable, lightweight, and the fifth gear loop on the backside of the harness is a dream come true. The six ice-clipper slots allow for a lot of winter racking options. To me, the only flaw is that the buckles are hard to loosen while wearing gloves. However, when all's said and done this is my all-time favorite, all-year, all-star harness!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good harness but don't buy for the ice clippers to use in an alpine setting Took it up Shasta this weekend to train on the glaciers and preform crevasse rescue evolutions. The Ice clipper clips interfere with hip belt of a full size pack. The Ice clipper clips are really a great addition to have and I didn't want to give them up so I ended up tapping them to my gear loops in strategic locations. They rest a bit lower but still keeps the soft goods out of the way. Maybe the BD engineers will read this comment and come up with a solution for that in the future The harness seems to be sized a bit smaller, so if you're near the limit of your size chart according to BD then size up because this is an Alpine Harness, you gonna have puffy pants on at some time in the future.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice Harness - But Gear Loops And Ice Clipper Slots Seem To Be Off Harness fits great and the added cord in the back is great for attaching lockers, cordelette, or anything that you don't actually need while in the middle of a pitch. Prior to this harness I had the Petzl Adajama harness and maybe its because I was used to the Adajama, but the ice clipper slots and gear loops just seem off on the Xenos. My other complaint are the leg loops. I also own the Chaos harness and the leg loops are elastic, and I love it. The fit is amazing. For some reason BD didn't make the leg loops on the Xenos elastic - but rather with buckles. Again, I feel it throws the fit off a bit. A good harness...but those were the two downfalls that I found.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great but has a flaw I love this harness except for one thing. The buckle is terrible. Very hard to work, especially in the cold. I have had other harnesses with the permanently threaded buckle and they are easy to work. Pull to tighten and pull out to release. This one is a bear, very difficult to release especially. If it had a recess to get your fingers behind it would be somewhat better. Apart from that is is comfortable, the ice clipper slots are in great places and great gear loops. Nice clean design and I like the full strength haul loop. I haven't used it enough to test the durability.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Jack of all trades I bought the Xenos for mountaineering, but it's so conformatble that I use it for everything: sports climbing, trad, scrambling, serious moutaineering, skiing, etc. I'd change a single point on this harness: the gear loop hang from the bottom of the hip belt. I tend to prefer gear loops in higher positions, especially when carrying trad climbing gear. Overall: if you don't know which harness to buy, and you practice a bit of evrything in the hills, buy the Xenos

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect harness for Ice and alpine From ice to Alpine rock, this has been a great harness. Rugged and comfortable. I was expecting less comfort from a winter harness, but was pleasantly surprised. Not a great harness in any kind of warm weather as the hydrophobic properties just increase the sweat factor, but that's not it's intended use. If you're in a cooler climate year round this could be your all in one, if not, then you'll need want the Ozone for your summer bolt clipping and trad cragging.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Comfortable, well designed gear loops, and best of all excellent buckle system I have been using BD's Bod Harness, Alpine Bod Harness for many, many years, and the Couloir Harness for the past few years. I really like the Couloir Harness since it packs so small but it is a bit uncomfortable for vertical routes requiring a lot of hanging belays. The worst of all, especially the Couloir is the almost impossible buckle system for winter use. I have found it impossible to put on with gloves and for a winter harness seems a little messed up, but with the Xenos buckle system everything works great. I have always considered BD the best but I almost left them for a different harness. I'm very satisfied with this harness and would recommend it for others. The only negative is it is a little bulky to pack with Ice clippers in place.
