The Black Diamond 9.4 seamlessly blends high-end specs with a durable construction that can handle day in and day out use. By combining a 2X2 sheath that’s burly enough to withstand every day abuse with a versatile diameter equally suited for hard redpoint burns or projecting sessions, the 9.4 hits the sweet spot for climbers who demand performance and need reliability. The rope also features an easily identifiable middle marker and handling that knots easily and feeds through a belay device smoothly.

  • 2X2 Woven Sheath—Utilizing a 2X2 weave construction, our standard sheath is built to withstand everyday use
  • Durability and Handling Balance—Purpose-built to balance both durability and great handling, our ropes are not too stiff and not too soft, giving you a great feeling rope that knots easily, feeds through your belay device with ease, yet holds up to a barrage of use

9.4 Climbing Rope is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 14.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Poor Handling and Feel This rope does not handle well for a 9.4. Lots of pig tails when cloving at belays, making it difficult to even use. The original sheath weave on BD ropes was far superior and felt very supple in comparison.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from right sized Super happy with this rope, large enough diameter to but used confidentantly in a grigri or ATC, while being quite light. Catches like a 10mm, not that bungie cord feeling you get with the smaller diameter ropes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great rope! After having the 9.2 and not loving it, I’m much more impressed with this version. Still easy to work with but I’m not having the same sheeth issues. I see the 9.2 is no longer an option...

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Middle Fark Middle mark had almost completely disappeared by the fifth rap on the second day we had it out. It was like a weird tarry flakey-ness rather than the standard marking. I expect to lose a middle mark when my rope gets filthy, but it's kind of weak to have to tape it up on the second day.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Breaks Down Fast After 3 months of weekend use swapped out for my boyfriend's rope every other weekend and with a gym rope during the week, I have a serious mushy point along with fuzziness on this rope. Imagine my horror as I looked down on a pitch to see my pants covered in yellow flecks. The rope was shedding all over me. Good thing I bought an 80 meter. Definitely not happy to be cutting this thing so quickly. It handles nicely, I like the color, but I expect my rope to at least last more than one season.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not durable, handles poorly This rope lasted me only 3 months of cragging before getting too fuzzy. It gets kinked and twisty more easily than many other ropes and is pretty fat for a 9.4. I usually get about 1-2 years out of my cragging ropes so the durability was disappointing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Smooth Handles well and feeds really smoothly! Sheath is holding up well to heavy projecting abuse.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Surprisingly resilient Just wrapped up guiding two weeks’ guiding in the Black Hills with two of these 80m cords (required for some of the extended pitches and TR situations we were rigging for clients.). Rope selection is always a trade off, but I was surprised by how light and packable these were- and even more surprised by how well they held up to group TR days over long pitches of rough rock. Price is a sweet spot, too. I’ll be stocking more of these for sure.
