Description

Engineered to provide laser precision on routes and boulder problems that require absolute focus, this dual-Velcro, high-performance shoe has a slightly downturned last for edging prowess on steeper terrain. With the highest grade European leather upper and our Engineered Knit Technology tongue, the Focus provides breathability and durability. We also printed high friction rubber on the vamp area of the shoe—this innovative process minimizes bulk while maximizing dexterity and grip for toe-hooking. The sole of the Focus is our stiff, durable rubber that’s molded—inspired by the way we forge our carabiners—and not cut from one sheet of rubber. This is our engineered solution to optimize our shoe’s rubber and rands for weight, consistency and comfort. Its stiff-flex midsole is ideal for micro-edging. The Focus also features medial and lateral stabilizer rands to increase precision by keeping your foot from rolling when pressure is applied to the outside or inside edges.

  • Moderate, slightly down-turned last for technical climbing on vertical to gently-overhanging terrain
  • 4.3mm rubber is purpose-built for edging and molded for consistency and performance
  • Engineered Knit Technology tongue provides exceptional breathability and comfort
  • Fine, durable leather upper
  • High friction rubber is printed on the shoe to minimize bulk and maximize dexterity and grip for toe hooking
  • Velcro straps for fit adjustability
  • Medial and Lateral stabilizer rands increase precision by keeping your foot from rolling when pressure is applied to the outside or inside edges

Focus Climbing Shoes - Men's is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 12.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Super stiff. Needs bigger sizes Love how stiff and supportive this shoe is. I have total confidence on small holds and it edges extremely well. Unfortunately I wear a 48 (US 14) and bought my climbing shoes size which is typically around a 13. Wayyyy to tight. And this is the biggest size they make! They did eventually break in however I have to take them off ever 2-3 routes while at the gym. Despite this, I still appreciate their performance. They have given me a huge confidence boost on smaller foot holds. Black Diamond, please expand your performance rock shoes to size 14 for us big footed freaks!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Stiff! These are much stiffer than predicted. I bought them for the gym, expecting them to be a little soft. I wish I’d bought them at the same size as my street shoe but bought a half size down since I didn’t totally trust BD’s recommendation. (They recommend street shoe sizing) - l in all, I find it very similar to the Miura VS which is my go-to edging and sport shoe. I am saving these for technical sport climbing now, and not using them in the gym.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Stiff Edging Shoe As a bigger climber (6'5 240lbs) the softer aggressive shoes usually dont provide as much edging power as I would like in my sport climbing shoes. I usually have to resort to more of a flat trad shoe for everything. I bought these a month ago and have loved them. They have a pretty aggressive profile and edge very well. I love the roomy toe box, that allowed me to size down and get a performance fit I want for harder single pitch routes. I have wide feet and went with my street shoe size, which gave me the fit I was looking for. Overall I am happy with my purchase.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from VERY SMALL It's not really fair for me to offer a rating because I havent climbed in these shoes. I can barely get them on me feet. I have returned 2 pair of BD climbing shoes I ordered online. I am typically a 42 (in hiking or runners) and a 41 in climbing shoes (scarpa and la sportiva). I've ordered, tried and returned everything from 41-42.5. All ridiculously too small. At this point I've spent way too much on return shipping so I am going back to the brands I know. Sorry BD, I love you guys but that just isnt working.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great shoe, rough break in (4.5/5 stars) I held off writing this because I wanted to wait until they were broken in... I received them in December, and it was a pretty miserable break in period. But! Now that I have finally got them broken in, I have nothing but good things to say about them. Disclaimer: I am a small female who has small feet (ordered these in my true shoe size, as advised). I was wearing the BD Momentums before these (also highly recommend for a moderate/comfy shoe) and needed something to help with the V5 to V6 hurdle. The heel is slightly loose, but the rise is high enough that it doesn’t hinder hooking at all. The good thing about these is that the upper is leather (aka, they will stretch a little and comform to the foot, which helps with the comfort factor). Now that I have adjusted to these, I love them. I am confident on tiny edges and they latch into holds on overhanging terrain with precision. The only downfall of such a stiff rubber is the lack of ability to smear well, but that is to be expected. These excel in everything else I have tried with them so far. If your big toe can handle the break in, it will be worth it!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great shoe, but not my perfect fit. I had the chance to receive a pair of these and I tried them at the gym. While I appreciate the wrapping of the feet they offer and the stiff sole, the fit is not for me. I used to climb with Scarpa Instinct Lace, size Euro 44.5, but I decided to go with my US shoe size for these, like recommended, which is 11.5 (Euro 45). They are finally half a size too short in length, but they are still a bit too wide for my feet. A little bad note related to the craftmanship: the red dye stains my feet every time I used them" I had to brush hard to remove it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Moderate Aggressive Shoe I'm all in on BD, and have been using the Momentum velcro as my everyday gym shoe, but when I need a more aggressive shoe for those tiny edges, the Focus is my goto. I've been very impressed with the performance and fit. I wear a 8.5 in the momentum, and tried an 8.5 in the focus for 3 months, but finally moved up to a 9. I have a wider toe box, and the 8.5 never stretched to what I needed them to be. The 9 is a perfect snugness after a dozen days out.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from They fear no edge... These shoes are winning me over. I’ve had them out two days, clipping bolts on just past vertical routes, about 10 pitches total on these shoes. If there is an edge, these shoes will get you on that edge. I’m a fan of stiff shoes and these are quite stiff. The shoe design really gets your big toe on top of that edge. They remind me of my favorite sport climbing shoe, the Scarpa Boostic. I’m a street shoe 11 and went with an 11 in this shoe. Day one was pretty painful but now they are comfortably snug, just what I want.
