Z-POLE TECHNOLOGY

Z-POLE TECHNOLOGY

Our Z-Pole Technology was born from our expertise in avalanche probes—by using a three-section shaft, a concealed inner Kevlar cord and innovative speed cones, our collapsible Z-Poles snap into place and lock with a single pull.

When not in use, a single push button releases the pole for compact storage.

FLICKLOCK PRO

FLICKLOCK® PRO

FlickLock Pro is the evolution of our trusted FlickLock design. The benefits that made FlickLock the best pole-locking mechanism on the market remain: it's secure, fast and easy to use. The FlickLock Pro's low-profile, stainless steel design, however, provides a dramatic improvement in quality, feel and clamping force.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Splitboard must I wanted poles that I could fit in my pack. I looked at lots of "trekking" poles that do the same collapsible thing that these do and didn't like the material of the grips. I felt like the foam grips for summer poles would ice up too easily. Cold hands are the enemy when seconds matter to transform your split and get ready for decent. These do really well. My only suggestions to BD for improvement would be to make the grips similar to the Expedition poles and extend them further down for tricky traverses and make the push button more glove friendly. Otherwise I'm stoked that these fit so easily in my pack, so I don't have spikes near my neck or back in a fall. Lastly if they came with tip guards for my pack so I don't cut it up they would rule above all else. Thanks BD for such a great product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not reliable! These poles failed on me deep in the backcountry. The flaw is in the design and manufacturing not in the user. I folded them up and put them in my pack. Took them out at the bottom of the run and one of the inserts that connect the poles had come loose and the pole could not reconnect. Some duck tape and a shovel handle got me out safely but a blue bird pow day got away. Half the reviews of these have this same issue with one star. BD claims if you want something more durable get the expedition poles. I say if something is marketed as a backcountry product it should be reliable in the backcountry! Also carry duct tape and zip ties...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from These are perfect If you doing snowshoeing and looking for a light durable pair of poles these are it. Based on the other reviews below - don't use them for downhill skiing - and that is not their intended use.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Broke after few days After few days of skiing, one of the joint broke without any fall. Filed and warranty claim with Black Diamond and I'm waiting to hear back. Would definitely NOT recommend unless you wrap them in bubble paper.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from DO NOT BUY THESE POLES Do not buy these poles. At this price point these poles should be strong and reliable, they are not. Had read many reviews about the poles breaking and freezing up in cold conditions. Shock horror they froze up today whilst touring and then broke when I tried to extend them. Not exactly what you want when you're in the backcountry and its -20. If you're looking for reliable, good quality poles that work for split-boarding, these are not them.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Unreliable and fragile I am a lifelong BD gear enthusiast – climbing harness, to ice axe, to touring poles – and this is the one piece of gear I would not recommend to a friend. In the last three years I have owned two sets of these poles as a splitboarder both of which have broken while hiking due to poor manufacturing.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Compactor failure For 3-4 seasons the Compactor has suited my needs as a splitboarder for the few trips I take each winter, they are compact and easy to use. Unfortunately they have a few week spots. This weekend the temperature dropped below -10C, resulting in two broken poles. The casing of the joint came loose from the middle section on both poles and are now stuck inside the opposite sections. I may be able to fix it with some glue, but overall I am disappointed over the weak design. I will most likely look elsewhere for a replacement.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for Uphill I've taken these out now a good bit and they are AWESOME! As long as you understand what you are buying... I am a speedflyer and these are perfect because when we go speedriding they fold down tiny and fit in my backpack super well. When weather turns bad and we cant fly down, I still collapse the poles and strap them to my pack for the ski down. THEY ARE NOT DOWNHILL SKIING POLES. They will break under pressure. I have a couple of buddies that splitboard with them and love them as well. Understanding how these poles perform, they are exactly what you should expect. For proper backcountry skiing, I use 2 piece flick lock poles that are designed for downhill skiing. They've got a little wobble, and aren't the most stable pole out there, but when you need poles for the uphill and not the down, they're killer.
