Rated 4 out of 5 by MatteoLari from Excellent but not the carabiner I think that most of the products of BD are absolutely well designed and functional. I decide to try ATC Pilot with its carabiner. Result: I raccomend the ATC Pilot but not the carabiner. After a 6 monts of use the carabiner is very marked by the abrasion of the rope. I have to look for a steel carabiner that well works with the ATC. I suggest BD to produce a "Steel" GridLock Screwgate Carabiner.

Rated 5 out of 5 by LP__ from Best single-pitch device yet. The ATC Pilot has become my belay device of choice for single-pitch routes. With a little practice, I've found that it feeds and lowers as smoothly as anything but a traditional ATC. The Pilot readily locks-off on a fall (note that I use my brake hand), and is easy to release if it catches unexpectedly (the thumb-catch is easier to get to in a hurry than that on some similar devices). It is also lighter than any mechanical assisted braking device. After a few months of regular use, my Pilot shows virtually no signs of wear. Lastly, this device doesn't seem to be encouraging the dubious one-handed belaying that all the cool kids (and many old folks) seem to be doing these days. Drawbacks are obvious. It won't do a double-rope rappel, and the rope wears on your carabiner. Oh, and the plastic part is disconcerting until you realize that it's non-structural. I always have an ATC at the crag, so these aren't big concerns. As for the GridLock, it's long been my belay biner. I never learned to not cross-load, and this eliminates that problem. If BD made something similar in stainless steel, I'd buy two.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Garba92 from Better than Edelrid Jul 2 Tested it, easyer and smoother to rappel your partner than jul2. Good idea to put 2 plastic line so the rope stay in line and also the carabiner stay in line by the binary. I used with another carabiner.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Gman from Different, but works fine Just wanted to try a new device. Have only done top rope climbing in a gym. This one was a little awkward at first but I like it a lot now. Lowering someone takes some finesse to do it smoothly but it quickly responds to your partner falling unexpectedly with a solid stop. The Screwgate carabiner felt a little snug so I replaced it with regular sized carabiner. Not for everyone but not bad.
