Featuring a burly Endurance sheath that uses a unique 1X1 weave construction to lengthen the ropes’ lifespan and make it more abrasion-resistant, the 7.8 is also boasts a dry treated core and sheath, which protects it from the inside out against moisture. The BD 7.8’s are specifically designed to be used in pairs as half ropes (or in a twin configuration) for an ice, alpine or multi-pitch set-up that can handle anything the mountains have to offer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Ward from My new alpine big wall setup I've always thought climbing on 2 half ropes would be stronger and safer on big spooky projects when rock is questionable. I now have 2 of these ropes and have been trying it out. LOVE IT! Lighter than a single lead and tag line, and these ropes are burly and run super smooth through a belay device. You can still lead and clip all the pieces and haul by disconnecting one rope and pulling it though, then tossing it down to your partner to connect the pig. Then the second climber follows on only one strand. The second is on top rope so they won't risk over working a single line. That's why I also like they are rated as twins.

Rated 5 out of 5 by whatthegunks from Total package. This pair totally kills it! I bought these cords in February specifically for long hard ice climbs and they really delivered. The dry treatment BD used in the manufacture of these ropes is state of the art. Again and again I marveled at their ability to shed moisture even in the most hostile conditions; dripping ice in cold, windy conditions. This is a next level dry treatment. The UIAA fall rating of these ropes is also impressive with a half/double rating of 6 and 14 for twin application rivaling cords from other manufacturers for far thicker/bulkier lines. At 7.8 these ropes offer the luxury of easily threading into V and A threads for rappelling ice routes, eliminating the need for leaving behind the tat that is essentially litter. I have been totally impressed with the new line of BD ropes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Mr Giraldo from Quality ropes I bought these ropes in February or so and used them for several months prior to a trip to the Alaska Range in April. I have climbed on Mammut ropes for years and was initially turned off by the stiffness of these ropes but over time they broke in nicely. They are quite slippery which helps keep them fresh longer but you may want to use a new ATC, old worn teeth could be scary on rappel. Took the ropes back to the Alaska Range in July and climbed the Eye Tooth and the Stump after which it was time to retire them after about half a year of use. I was quite impressed with the durability and general handling for such a skinny rope and would estimate they would last many people several seasons.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Ian from Excellent tool Been using a pair of these for a few months now, and am slowly converting over to 1/2/twin rope style of climbing. The ropes handle very well, with a nice smooth sheath, and seem to be very durable. Four stars only because they coil a bit when tossing down for rappels. Other than that, no problems at all.
