DescriptionThe Black Diamond 9.9 is our go-to rope for year-round rock climbing. Boasting a thick diameter built for day in, day out use, the 9.9 is optimized for durability yet soft enough to deliver great handling. Sporting an easily identified middle marker, the BD 9.9 is ideal for climbers who prefer packing one burly rope for all rock projects.

- Durability and Handling Balance: Purpose-built to balance both durability and great handling, our ropes are not too stiff and not too soft, giving you a great feeling rope that knots easily, feeds through your belay device with ease, yet holds up to a barrage of use

Rated 3 out of 5 by gbaby1 from Cheap Price & Quality This is a great and affordable option as a first rope but do not expect it to last a lifetime. The sheath wears easily but have had no core issues. Great for one season of moderate use but will have to chop both ends before continuing to use it. If you want something more durable, you'll have to pay the extra $$. Haven't tried any of the other BD ropes but I have high hopes as the company continues with their development.

Rated 4 out of 5 by damien from Impressed Still early on to give a complete review, but so far, with several cragging days and a multipitch day - definitely enjoying this rope. Great hand, feels durable, soft catches, and feels light for the diameter. First time I've branched out from another rope manufacture in a long while, but so far, no regrets!

Rated 2 out of 5 by ndchu from Surprisingly not durable, but nice soft feel After only a couple month of use, there are a number of places on the sheath that have worn and a couple places of pretty squishy core. This rope has certainly seen some abuse, but not much more than many other ropes I've had or seen that responded better. This rope has a nice feel and soft catch. But it's less of a workhorse/awkward TR thrasher than I had hoped.

Rated 1 out of 5 by scooter from Retired after 2 months of moderate use I have now had 3 Black Diamond ropes and so far I have been happy with the other ones. I have had a 9.2 80m, 9.4 70m, and this rope, 9.9 70m. All the other ropes have held up well. However, this rope was trashed after 2 months of moderate use. It is somewhat confusing for me considering that it is the thickest BD rope I have had by quite a large margin. I used this rope for moderate trad climbing and some sport climbing. It saw some falls but none were big and the rope was never running against sharp edges or anything during use. After two months of climbing on it, the rope had small core shots in two places and multiple places will significant sheath damage. Apparently BD's thinner ropes have better durability than their "workhouse" 9.9mm.

Rated 5 out of 5 by RobyC from Great Workhorse This is my first rope and it works wonderfully. It is supple and easy to tie knots in and goes easily through the belay device. Weather it is a short single pitch or a fairly intense multi pitch it will get the job done.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Geoff from Moderate Decent feel, bit rough in the hand, gets dirty really easily.
