2013 LiMing Trad Climbing Festival a Huge Success

Wednesday, September 7, 2016
The 2nd annual LiMing Climbing Festival was held November 1-3 in China’s stunning Laojunshan National Park. BD athletes hosted clinics for climbers from all over the world.

Like the inaugural event last year, the event hosted more than 200 climbers from China and all over the world, and featured trad climbing clinics for all abilities. Clinics were taught by a host of BD athletes including two of the world’s best crack climbers, BD athletes Yuji Hirayama and Jean-Pierre Ouellette, as well as fellow BD athletes Mike Dobie and Brittany Griffith.

The festival is a fantastic community gathering of climbers all eager to learn the techniques of trad climbing—a niche of climbing that is relatively new to China. Once again climbers flocked to the spectacular sandstone cliffs of LiMing to learn trad techniques such as building anchors, hand jamming, offwidthing, and self-rescue. In the evenings everyone would gather at an outside venue to watch presentations by the athletes and compare the day’s jamming gobies with beers in hand.

The event was another great success with everyone safely learning the subtle arts of trad climbing. Before the event was over climbers were already making plans to return for the 3rd annual event in 2014! We hope to see everyone there again next year, as well as new faces eager to learn and have a blast.
