Rated 5 out of 5 by Jonathon from A Real Mid-layer for the mountains. This layer if finally a mid-layer that won't cause you to over heat. For years i've been looking for a lightweight mid-layer for climbing, ski touring, and alpine climbing. For years I used an R1 layer but was always to hot in it and just found it way to warm when i was moving in the mountains. The CoEfficient layer is lighter and more breathable then an R1. The hoody is a good fit and works well with helmets both (ski and climbing) For sizing help: I got a Large and i'm 6ft and about 165lbs. Overall really like this layer and hope they make it in some different colors for next year.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Crusty from Essential Piece for every Patroller! This piece has served me well in my first year with the NSP - ideal mid layer when your day is a constant stop and go. Comfortable over a wide temperature range - full zip front makes it easy to dump heat fast. The cut of the hood works well with a helmet. Cuff design is simple - everything you need, and nothing more. Snug fit keeps the snow out. Yes - it only has one pocket - it's a mid layer! I've got a jacket and pack to carry essentials. For reference, I am 5'11", 172 lbs, and I went with the large. After a month of using this nearly every shift, I purchased the jacket version to wear for nordic skiing, when I don't need/want a hood.

Rated 1 out of 5 by spca from Keep changing the cut - bad move This has happened before. I have bought four coefficiant hoodies over the last few years (black) in the same size (L). Now i ordered a new one which I assume is this years in grey and it's terrible. The cut has no relation whatsoever to anything in the past. The bottom of the jacket is mid pocket-way to big and wide. I can only assume that you are sizing big to keep in check with the american obesity sizing. For the record I'm 6'4 195..a large should not be to big for me

Rated 5 out of 5 by alpinejunkie from more versatile than R1 The CoEfficient is a bit lighter weight than an R1, so more versatile for my needs. I can layer it with a wicking baselayer and hardshell, and use it's hood under my helmet, instead of a balaclava. With that layering setup, I can wear it without overheating toward the top of a 60m ice pitch - I can't do that with an R1, unless it's cooler than around 5F. That said, if I were to nitpick, I would suggest to BD to trade out the full length zip, for a half length, and use a shock-cord cynch for the balaclava, for a more custom hood fit. Anyways, I have no idea where mine went, so I'm going to replace it with another CoEfficient hoody.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Kevin from Excellent mid layer hoody This is an excellent hoody to use as a mid layer when hiking. The inside is super soft. The arms are plenty long. I'm very tall and it's hard to find a good form-fitting hoody like this, but it fits me very well. The chest pocket is great. I have 2 gripes about it which made me only give it 4 stars. There are no hand pockets. I know it would add bulk but for me I would really love hand pockets on it. Also, the hood doesn't fully come over my head. Maybe they were thinking about people wearing helmets or something, I'm not sure, but it's not a big enough hood for me and my head isn't that big. Overall I really love it and use it all the time. I would highly recommend it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Patrick from Just perfect I bought 2 CoEfficient fleece hoody. One nickel and one blue denin. They fit perfectly. Lightweight and warm and extremely confortable. One of my favorite new 2017 mountaineering kit from Black Diamond. I think it's the best fleece on the market if it's what you're searching for. Fit perfectly with the Alpine Start Hoody, the Liquid Point Shell, the Sharp End Shell and with the First Light Hoody.... Note...if your girlfriend ask you someday to try one of your CoEfficient fleece hoody.....just say no, hihihi, cause she will love it and you will have to buy another one...

Rated 5 out of 5 by Rock Gypsy from Thin and Long...Great for use with a harness. I bought this jacket about a month ago, and so far I really like it. It is very thin, so first realize that you are buying a tighter fitting thin jacket that covers down to your hips. I love how stretchy it is. It works great for me because I'm a rock climber and iy fits great under my harness. The length insures that it stays under my harness even when I have to do long reaches. Also thin enough to fit perfect under a windstop layer. It's been a chilly winter in Red Rocks this year, and this jacket works perfect for me when I have to layer up. I usually hate wearing a jacket while rock climbing, but after a few minutes I hardly even feel like I'm wearing a jacket at all because it is so stretchy and thin. It's so comfortable that I have practically been living in this thing. I even wear it at home instead of going for that old flannel shirt. Another reviewer said that they would like to see this hoody with hand pockets. I think that his one is fine without pockets. If you really have to have pockets then check out the "Solution Hoody" it is very similar to this jacket. Same great layering ability and fit, but has hand pockets. I have both jackets, and I love them both equally.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Redd from The Perfect Technical Mid-Layer I cant say enough good things about this hoody. This garment has everything you need (to include thumb holes and an under helmet hood) and none of the things that are unnecessary and increase weight. This fits snug but I believe this is the intent. I am 5'11 185 with an athletic build and a large fits perfectly. My only complaint is that the chest pocket is too large. I typically use this pocket for a phone or energy gels and this pocket is too large for either allowing them to move around quite a bit.
