Z-Pole Rapid Deployment System

Z-Pole Rapid Deployment System

  • Concealed inner cord
  • Single push-button release to collapse the pole
  • One-pull, Speed Cone deployment

Speed Cone technology comes from our expertise in avalanche probe design—a key component of Z-Poles' stiffness and fast deployment. Simply grab the grip and the first shaft section, and pull them away from each other. The pole will snap into place and lock. Each Speed Cone guides a shaft section into place, and stiffens the joint when the pole is locked. Protective, flexible tube ends cover the pole’s Kevlar® center cord when folded.

Distance Z Trekking Poles - 2017 is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 30.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Fatal flaw The speed cones get stuck inside the shaft about 50% of the time, no amount of tugging on the string gets them to budge. This happens a lot and made me nervous that I'd be out on a back packing trip with useless poles. Not confidence inspiring. Also, once the blue piece of the speed cone dives into the shaft there is nothing you can do to get it out, which means the pole is permanently broken. Also the snap will freeze in winter so rendering them uncollapsible. I decided on a different brand altogether after my experience with the Z poles.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good poles especially for the price. I use the trekking poles on steep and sketchy runs. So far have no problems and they help immensely.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product for money I bought this product a month ago and has really helped my training. I do wish I bought carbon fiber though

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Price Was really pleased with the price and smooth delivery. Poles were great to use, the Z poles easily fit inside (not outside) my day pack.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Saved my knees I wish I had these when I hiked the Dolomites. They're lightweight and fold up to easily fit inside my backpack. TSA workers looked them over, but I had no problems getting them past security. I used them for the first time hiking portions of the steep TransCatalina Trail and up Mount Baldy in California. They were an awesome aid to shift some of the work to my arms and spare my knees, especially on the downhills. Usually I'm really sore after these big hikes, but I recovered quickly, and I think these poles really helped. Love these poles! (I got the aluminum ones)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Game changing Bought these to train and run an ultra with 19,000 ft of elevation gain and equal descent in 45 miles. Been using them for an equivalent profile in my training. Can't wait to put them to work in the race. Used them in mud, snow, rock scrambles, and just plain old dirt, and they are durable, light, and provide me with what feels like extra limbs. They will make you feel like an animal bounding up hills, scrambles, and very technical terrain. The collapse feature is perfect for bombing the downhills, well designed, and fast. Never wanted a flick lock feature and glad these are simple. Way to go BD! Never saw a reason for poles in running until I used something like this and signed up for something that would kick my butt without em and probably still will. Love em

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great poles for any walking! I love the Black Diamond Z trekking poles. I have used both the carbon fiber poles for long distance mountain hiking and the more economical aluminum poles. Both are great. I bought the last set for my sister-in-law who is undergoing chemo-therapy and is a bit weaker and has some loss of feeling in her feet. The two poles give great support and confidence to walk safely. Two poles are much better than one and do not cause a twisted gate that can cause back pain. It is fun to get into the rhythm of walking with poles and it also give a bit of upper body exercise. Remember - Right foot forward with the left-hand pole and then left foot with the right-hand pole. It is just like cross-country skiing. When I am out walking people often say, "Where are your skis!" They also look "cool" and do not have the stigma of walking with a cane. They are really light and fold up to just 14 inches so you can carry them easily in almost any bag or backpack. The are also allowed on the airplanes now. They have a non-pointy tip but I like to attach the larger black diamond pole tips for a better grip on smooth surfaces. They just pop on - but they also pull off if you stick them in a muddy puddle or wet earth. So, I glue them on with black silicone glue that you can get at any hardware store. There is a little air pocket and you need to apply the glue, stick in the poles and press down. I wedge them under my workbench until the glue dries. (Of course that means you cannot take the tip off for the pointy end if you want that.) Buy these poles for yourself and give them as a gift. They are a great present for anyone who walks. For the seamstresses and tailors out there - I make a small drawstring bag for the poles and attach an S-clip to the top. I then buy a small backpack (like a book-bag) and put a loop just under the arm pit on the strap. That way you can clip the poles away when you don't need them, but they are at the ready when you do. I use that for getting on and off the bus, when I go into a store or a restaurant.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Returned for Even Better Poles Fold to a good size for travel but the straps are cheap and small. Also, fixed length. Sent back and purchased the flz plus which adjust in length, better straps and still fold to a short length.
