DescriptionFor serious cold-weather adventurers, the 320-lumen Black Diamond Icon-Polar Headlamp is engineered with a focus on preserving battery life even in frigid temperatures. A detachable battery housing allows for easy removal and stowage for increased battery life retention while decreasing the amount of weight on your head. A red night-vision mode easily protects your night vision, while dimming, strobe and lock modes add lighting options for all conditions. Waterproof up to 1 m, the Icon-Polar is truly an all-weather light.
- One QuadPower LED spotlight, two SinglePower white LEDs and two SinglePower red LEDs emit 320 lumens (max. setting)
- Detached battery housing holds four AA batteries to reduce headband weight and conserve power in bitter cold.
- Settings include full strength in proximity and distance modes, dimming, strobe, red night vision and lock move
- Three-level power meter shows remaining battery life for three seconds after switching on headlamp
- IPX7: Waterproof—Best for saltwater and extremely wet environments. Unit is completely sealed and tested to operate up to 1 meter underwater for 30 minutes. Requires no maintenance after submersion.

Rated 5 out of 5 by roland from Good Very even light, low power beam is bright enough without being dazzling to others. High beam will see you down a rough trail on low setting but is bright enough to ski with on high. Having battery separate means it is very light to wear as well as keeping the battery warm. Overall very robust and will stand up to hard mountain use. Although the wt looks quite high the unit is actually light, moat of the wt is batteries. It is not one to keep in the summer pack 'just in case' but for serious alpine starts or finding you way in bad weather is absolutely perfect. Bought for Mountaineering around Alaska boarder area

Rated 3 out of 5 by Alexandre from Ok What I like: The light is small and light so it is unobtrusive and does not weigh you down. It is also bright. What I do not like: The 70 hour listing is misleading. After 5 hours of use or so the light intensity drops dramatically, such that I had to change the batteries in order to maintain adequate lighting for mountain biking. Furthermore, vibrations sometimes turned the light off, and the switch seemed to be defective (i.e. the dimming feature quit working and I could not turn it on in proximity lighting mode (double-click)).

Rated 2 out of 5 by Dan N from Clumsy and Awkward I had the original Icon for 6 years and loved it. Thought I was upgrading with this and I notice very little difference in brightness level. Is what I do notice is that it is always getting tangled up, the wires won't last long because of the stress, the pack does not stay on my back. I don't even use it now because it is so awkward. Like most Black Diamond the battery life is excellent and most of them last a long time.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Silas from Worst headlamp I have owned... Ever NOT VERY BRIGHT! Poor battery life, 70 hour battery life is very misleading. Faulty on/off switch. Overpriced. Feels cheaply made. Button is hard to press with gloves on. The cord is stiff and uncomfortable.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Todd from Good for caving I got this for caving, the under-shell battery pack is great, and gives outstanding battery life, even with cheap rechargables. The high beam is great, but I wish the low power LEDs had more oomph as I find them a bit dim for walking, though they are good for crawl ways where the high beam is way too much.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Michael from Serious lamp I purchased this lamp to replace my older BD lamp which was run over by an automobile. That light was 15 years old and worked as well as the day I got it. This one seems to work just as well. I like I can keep the batteries warm. I've had it out in near minus 30f in Adirondacks! Several times several miles, several ice climbing pitches. Same batteries. Lamp has been wacked a couple times by falling ice. Looks, works fine. This lamp takes more then I can dish out.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Teedge from Heavy, but effective. Keeping batteries warm really makes a difference! Bright light...same as my Storm.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Tyler from Exactly what I was looking for I have used this light on late night and early morning hikes/runs and AT ski tours. The 320 lumens was more than enough light for me to make my way down on the skis in the dark. I really like how easy it is to adjust the light setting as well to conserve battery power. The external battery pack fits nicely in a pocket or pack. Great product!
