BD athlete Samuel Anthamatten won the Big Mountain Fieberbrunn Freeride contest
BD Athlete Samuel Anthamatten, from Zermatt, Switzerland won the Big Mountain Fieberbrunn Freeride contest, a World Qualifying Tour event. Sammy is actually sponsored by BD as an alpinist, but we all knew he rips on skis as well. He has competed for years on the Ice Climbing WorldCup, and has made a name for himself in recent years by knocking off serious objectives with his older brother (and Piolet d'Or winner) Simon Anthamatten.

BD Team Manager Dan Caruso caught up to Samuel today, and here's what he had to say about his first major contest win in only his second freeride event.
DC: Congrats on the win at Fiebrunn! How did you do it?
SA: I rocked! (laughs) I picked the side of the mountain with the best snow, that was an important decision in the morning.
DC: Any big drops?
SA: Oh yeah! The first one I went 18-20 meters. Big cliff and I stuck the landing. The second air wasn't as big, but I took it with speed and sailed 15 meters wide!
DC: What skis were you on?
SA: I skied the 192 Zealots. Big skis were perfect for that course.
DC: What's next?
SA: I qualified for the Qualifier in Taos, New Mexico (USA), but the invitation doesn't come with a plane ticket. I will compete at the Nendaz freeride next month here in Wallis and hope to qualify for the Finalé in Verbier. Until then I will stay in Zermatt and hunt for powder. See ya!!
