Questions
Describe
your climbing background:
I started climbing in Florida of all places on a
small climbing wall in a retail shop. I was hooked
from the first time I went climbing.
Was there a big breakthrough or defining moment for
you?
There wasn’t a specific defining moment but
I did have a big breakthrough on my first road trip.
Describe a memorable climbing experience:
Sending my first real hard boulder problem—it
was the last day of a three month trip in Bishop
and I had been trying this climb for three weeks.
I wasn’t getting to the last crux move and
just couldn’t stick the big move. I had given
up and packed my stuff when Matt said, “ try
it one more time.” I did and sent as the sun
was going down. It was the perfect ending to any
road trip.
Any training advice or suggestions?
Climb hard, never let go and campus…
How do you see climbing evolving in the next five
years?
I see more climbing gyms and a better overall public
knowledge of the sport.
Care to comment on: pre-clipping more than one draw
on sport routes or pre-placed gear on trad routes,
chipping/comfortizing holds, glue vs. no glue?
One draw is enough and isn’t placing gear part
of trad climbing? I’m not into the glue thing
or chipping holds.
Do you have any vices and what are they?
French fries and chocolate.
Any near death experiences?
Falling out of a tree when I was six-years old.
Are you a fan of climbing history? Explain?
I read about old school trad gear once and thought
that that’s pretty crazy.
What are your future plans or goals in climbing?
To climb overseas…
