Questions
Describe your climbing background:
Traditional in the sense that style matters—bolts
are placed ground up, gear is placed on lead and you
don’t forget your nuts. Also having great mentors
and friends has been very important.
Was there a big breakthrough or defining moment for
you?
I have always enjoyed the freedom of climbing and being
in the mountains where I feel the most inspired.
What are you up to when you’re
not climbing?
Skiing, mountain biking and painting.
Any training advice or suggestions?
Believe—have confidence in your self and remember
everyone has good days and not so good ones.
Who or what inspires you?
Aesthetics of rock and surroundings, watching my
bro’s
go for it and doing something that felt impossible.
Care to comment on: pre-clipping more than one draw
on sport routes or pre-placed gear on trad routes,
chipping/comfortizing holds, glue vs. no glue?
Pre-clipping or pre-placing gear is a matter of style
and style is a matter of choice. Personally, I believe
it’s about rising to the level of the climb not
lowering the climb to your level. The easy way out
is still the easy way. However, manufacturing routes
is completely unacceptable. It’s important
to leave virgin rock for the next generation because
the progression of climbing depends on it.
