20 Questions
Describe your skiing background:

I grew up skiing Utah and started racing at eight years old. I went on to race on the U.S. Ski Team. I raced World Cup and in the Olympics from 87’ to 95’. Then in 97’ after a short career in Pro Mtn. Biking, I started my professional big mtn. career filming and competing.

What was your big breakthrough or defining moment in skiing?
For big mountain skiing—Alaska in 97’—I skied a run called pyramid and I did it in like eight turns and it changed the speed of skiing big mountains forever.

Describe a skiing experience when things got out of hand:
I was in Alaska in 99’ I was skiing a run we called the ‘Nantucket Sleigh Ride.’ I got about half way down, hit some ice, went backwards and hooked my tails. Then the slough caught me and I tried to stop cart wheelin’ down the face. I soon realized if I didn’t let myself pickup speed while sliding I would probably fall into a crevasse. So with no skis on I let myself slide with the slough and aired over the crevasse sliding on my back for 1200 vertical feet. I never recovered my equipment and had to go home very sore.

What are you up to when you’re not skiing?
I ski and fish guide in the summer up in Alaska. When I have the time I golf and Mtn. bike as much as possible.

Do you think the best skiers today are better than the best skiers twenty years ago?
No I don’t. Today we have better equipment and knowledge and we have pushed the sport but if they skied in our time they would be just as great.

Do you have any vices that you would like to share?
Wine.

Ever been caught speeding or ever been arrested?
Yes and that’s all I can say.

Any tattoos or body piercings?
An earring and a bear claw tattoo on my right forearm for strength.

Are you a fan of skiing history? Explain?
For sure, I am always learning about the past because it shows you how great past athletes. Without the early pioneers pushing the sport, where would we be today? It is human nature to explore and push their limits.

What are your future plans or goals in skiing?
I will continue to ski as long as my legs last. I will always be apart of the industry—I love it too much. I will get into more mountaineering and guide skiing.
