Questions
Describe
your skiing background:
Coming from Sun Valley, I've always been a freeskier,
but racing was a big part of my youth. The first half
of my professional career began with racing and I've
transitioned mostly to freeride now, while keeping
my racing skills sharp with skiercross.
What was your big breakthrough or defining moment in
skiing?
Making the US Ski Team at 18, I could finally justify
committing myself to professional skiing. Describe a skiing experience when things got out
of hand: I've had some close calls along the way. Some hard
crashes on the World Cup, but nothing freaks me out
more than triggering a slab avalanche. I've been
lucky a few times, but now I know there's no substitute
for being prepared.
What are you up to when you're not skiing?
Being a dad. It's an amazing experience that makes
everything I do on skis look easy.
Who or what inspires you?
My new daughter is amazing inspiration. She makes
everything worthwhile.
How do you see skiing evolving in the next five
years?
Skiing is changing quickly right now. It's more
fun than ever and thanks to BD it's also safer
than ever.
Do you think the best skiers today are better than
the best skiers twenty years ago?
I'm not sure that's fair to say. Maybe there's
more competition today, but where would it be without
yesterday.
How does fear affect your skiing?
Fear is important, but you've got to let it go once
you've committed.
Do you have any vices that you would like to share?
Deep, unadulterated, blower powder.
Ever been caught speeding or ever been arrested?
Uh........no......never.
What are your future plans or goals in skiing?
Just
want to keep the dream alive—skiing as
much pow as I can.
