PIEPS DSP Sport Avalanche Beacon is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 38.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does the Job So far this beacon has been excellent and simple to use. The harness has a quick-deploy buckle system that is also very handy when you're in an emergency situation. I highly recommend this guy if you're looking for a no-frills avy beacon.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple to use. Easy to learn This is the second one I have purchased. Easy to use and learn. Great for folks that don’t practice regularly.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fine Product I used one of these for 6 years as a patroller. Good product. Take your time on the primary search, give it time to think, and it’ll take you right in. I failed a test with a double burial because of two factors. One, low batteries. Two, I had my phone on and in my chest pocket. The beacon refused to work. New batteries and phone off and it worked fine. Don’t believe the numbers that the pros use for distance between phone and beacon. Off or airplane mode.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best transceiver out there I'm an avalanche instructor, and I've tried numerous transceivers over the years. This is the most straightforward transceiver with the longest tested range (vs a handful of other brands), for the price. I have a far more expensive transceiver from another brand and I choose this one when I am in the backcountry hands down. I also give this one to my friends when we are skiing because I know it will work for them (and me!). Unlike other transceivers, the Pieps DSP Sport's brain seems to work consistently. It has fewer errors as you approach your target, and I don't have to stand around waiting for the electronics to get their act together. The only issue I've ever had with this model is the switch: students have been on search, put the transceiver in their pocket, and the switch flips back to transmit from the friction in the pocket. This is, of course, annoying. However, it makes the point to students that this is a bad habit anyway. I view this issue as minor but certainly one that needs to be fixed by Pieps. Regardless, if you are on a budget and want a really solid transceiver, this is it. No need to buy the pro.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from reliable and simple I have used the Pieps sport avy bacon for a number of years as a back up or if one of my clients shows up with something less then adequate. I like the simplicity of use and great user friendly and locking control slide. The directions on the screen in the search mod are easy to follow and any of my clients that have used it were immediately successful the practice search. They usually go on to purchase a PIEPS for there own use.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Quick reponse and good range I alternate between this beacon and a Mammut Barryvox. The range on the Mammut is hard to beat but I think the Pieps DSP Sport actually responds to changing distance quicker. The remaining battery reading could be more precise, but otherwise no complaints, great beacon!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Lacks durability and service. While easy to use my unit stopped working after 3 seasons of moderate use ie 30 days a season. Trying to find someone to send it to for trouble shooting was like going down a rabbit hole and ending up in Europe.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Have had to replace 4 times with the warranty The plastic bit on the body that holds the leash has broken on three different devices for me. The screen also stopped working for me in the middle of a tour. I'm now on my 4th device, as the warranty office has been super great about replacing them but I'd be hard pressed to recommend this to anyone.
