DescriptionA durable, easy-to-swing tool built for a full season of winter climbing objectives, the redesigned Black Diamond Viper Ice Tool provides all-around performance for the ice and alpine climber. The Viper’s hydroformed shaft extends through the grip for maximum rigidity and a responsive feel, and our Natural Pick is included to beef up durability on scrappy mountain terrain. The adjustable FlickLock® pommel acts as a secondary grip position for ice climbing and cragging and easily slides up the shaft for choking up on low-angle snow slopes. The modular head allows for easy changing of picks and swapping between hammer and adze.
- Lightweight, hydroformed aluminum shaft extends through the grip for responsive feel and rigidity (CEN T)
- Adjustable FlickLock upper pommel
- Modular head is compatible with all current BD picks
- Natural pick (CEN T) included
- Clippable spike
- Alpine FlickLock Pommel

Rated 5 out of 5 by Cermo from universal perfect tool Tried this on mixed and ice climbs. They are really light, perfectly balanced and well made. Great for alpine style climbing. Picks are durable and last longer then Singing Rock Bandits (my previous axes). If you keep them sharp, they are also great in ice, however if you prefer only ice climbing and more difficult routes, then you should consider Fuels or other specialized tools for ice.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Mars from Super versatile! I've had these about a year and they are my first leashless tool (it takes me awhile to accept change). They have a great feel, easy to swing accurately and area a great lightweight general use tool for those of us who don't climb in fruitboots for a living. The lower hand grip/hook is removable so they can double as a hybrid style mountaineering axe, which is very handy both for approaches and for minimizing the gear clogging up your garage.

Rated 5 out of 5 by James from Perfect All-Arounder I love these. I finally decided to breakdown and replace my first generation leashed Cobras, and I couldn't be happier. The Vipers made the transition to leashless climbing simple and straightforward.

Rated 5 out of 5 by pdelaney from Fantastic! Spent a full week of Canadian Rockies Guiding on these great tools! Short and light but very well balanced and incredibly precise. No hacking swing here..they offer a nice older school flick and when combining them with the cascade blades these tools become ready for anything. Low angle rambles, no problem there agile handling, and movable upper pommel help the climber adapt to any lower angle surface comfortably and easily. On solid hard steep ice climbing with plenty of cleaning, they're no compromise...these tools are great! They have a little less clearance for your fingers so watch out not to punch into the ice. By far I think these tools might be the best do it all tools around. An awesome choice for anyone who likes to spend lots of time on ice and climbing where balancy hand matching on tools isn't a must.
