How-to Video: Fitting Black Diamond Gloves and Mitts

WindWeight Fleece Mitts is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 10.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from All Around Star I’ve been wearing these gloves during my commute to work. The finger exploded mode is great for on the train and texting/surfing. Better than normal gloves supposedly meant for cell phones. It’s 1 degree today! Have also put a thin glove under it for extended outdoor time in cold temp (think windy NE football tailgate). Got several comments and reference requests.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Possibly world's finest general-purpose mittens. In an endless quest to find right mittens for cold-weather cycling, these are near perfect. Totally windproof and warm down to freezing temps, I'm able to regulate hand temperature while riding by flipping up mitten ends to expose fingers if my hands start to overheat. Ditto being super-convenient in cold temps when locking bike, doing quick roadside repairs, etc. Mitts are well made and highly-functional. Cannot recommend highly enough. I've also used for snow-shoeing, and other winter sports. They are not for temps below 20F or so, as they are only one-layer of windproof fleece, but fantastic for everything above that threshold. Don't think, buy!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Favorite glove for dog walks. Keeps my fingers warm in Chicago. Preferable to pull back mitten to use phone then try and use touch compatible gloves. Also perfect for using doggy bags without having to take my gloves off!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Nice gloves at first...but... I bought a pair of these from REI this fall and wore them most of this winter, they were okay except for a few annoyances. First, the metal magnetic retaining snaps. One sits right over my middle finger nail in the mitten and stings like the dickens if you happen to tap it the wrong way. Second, also the metal snaps. They RUST. Don't plan on using these in snow, ice or getting them wet.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Gloves These are great really gloves! - my only complaints are: 1. When really cold the magnet in the front of the glove will start to radiate cold into the glove. Black Diamond should have another layer of fleece behind it. 2. The way the gloves are constructed there is a seam between your thumb and the rest of your hand. Normally this is not an issue - unless you are shoveling snow. Then it cuts right into your hand.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Mitts that let my fingers free Wanted mitt to walk the dog and still be able to get the mail out of the mailbox. These mitt/gloves do it for me.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice combination of features and material. I bought these mitts primarily for cold weather photography. The material is nice and thick w/o being bulky and seems quite wind-resistant. The flap over the fingers opens and closes easily, although the little magnet that holds the flap open has to be positioned carefully to grab. As is the case with any fingerless glove I've used, they're a bit difficult to get off. For really cold weather, I'm considering getting a pair of oversized mitts to put on over these (I've become less cold tolerant as I've gotten older).

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Windproof and Warm These mitts are super versitle. I use them for liner mitts while touring, for hiking and even cold-weather dog walking. They block all but the strongest gusts, even then I can barely feel breeze. The wind blocking membrane allows them to be fairly thin yet warm when in mitten mode. They are easily converted to fingerless gloves by popping the magnetic button and flipping the mitt covering. This allows for great dexterity while fiddling with clippy-things. The one improvement I'd suggest would be a way to expose the thumb, or possibly adding some grippy texture to the thumb tip. I haven't found this detail critical as the material is thin and tight enough to allow good dexterity, but nevertheless, this addition would complete an otherwise excellent mitten.
