Rated 5 out of 5 by Dano from Go to hard Shell for the Chugach purchased this as my only hard shell for any time theres a good chance of precip. Light enough that I cant justify also have a lighter shell as well. The construction is bomber, gore tex pro does the job as designed. A bit baggier than some other big name technical hardshells. But all in all I love it. Pic is from Gold star Peak Here in Alaska

Rated 4 out of 5 by bham18 from Got What I Was Looking For Bought this as a replacement to an Arc'teryx Theta AR that was stolen and have been very happy with the transition to BD. This jacket is about half the price of the Arc'teryx and holds up just as well. I tested it out on a week long mountaineering trip in the BC Coastal range (lots of rain and bushwacking). Good stuff: - Gore-tex is bomber and very sturdy - Chest pockets (external and internal) - Pit zips are great - Velcro on wrist-cuffs are solid - Tabs on the zippers make them easy to use Improvements: - The main zipper came off the track the 4th day I wore it. I was really diligent every time after to make sure I set the track correctly at the bottom - Tension cords on the bottom hem sit right underneath the waist belt for a pack - Hand pockets are not waist belt friendly

Rated 5 out of 5 by PHILIP from Was excellant - now even better I've been using gre-tex shells since they were invented in New England on Mt Washington which is notorious for sudden blasts of arctic weather to Swirtzerland, on 400 meter + peaks and Nepal to Everest. Black Diamond gear is among the best and the present Sharp End Shell is a significant improvement. It's cut roomier, allowing layering of insulation such as the Cold Forge hooded down withoth free movement. The pockets (that are vanishing from competing shells) are great - you can have fast access to a cell or satellite phone , and tow gloves when needed. Hood works without cutting off vision. all in all it's great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by WVMountaineer from Best of any brand I have tried! Worth every penny. I have several hardshell jackets, but I believe the BD Sharp End is the best of the bunch. Everything you could want from a shell is provided in one high-quality jacket: very low pack weight, supreme weather protection, fantastic mobility for climbing or skiing, and durability for hard use. I am 6'0", 190 with an athletic, but muscular build. For BD layers, I am a solid XL. I ordered this in Large since the cut is more generous as a shell. My recommendation is to size down if you are using modern layering insulation underneath (not the big, puffy down). It is cut with plenty of room for layers.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Charles from Great Jacket, large sizing I bought a Sharp End shell in 2016 and it was the best jacket I've ever owned. The fit was perfect. It always kept me dry, it was light and felt durable. I sent it to be replaced because a seam began to tear. Black Diamond sent me a new one right away (great customer service). The 2018 version has the same specs and feel BUT it's quite larger than my old one. I'm 5'9'' and 165lbs (athletic) and the Medium is now too large ; the sleeves are too long and the length is longer than the 2016 version. I feel like I'm floating in it even with my Arcteryx Atom LT under. I like my jackets on the slimmer fit side and I'm very disappointed that the fit has been changed that much because the 2016 version was perfect! I tried a Small in store and the sleeves and overall size is more fitted for me but the size at the hips is too tight. I'll look elsewhere until the overall BD fit is changed again.
