Rated 5 out of 5 by from I have used these for 15 years. Over 300,000 ft up I got mine in 2004 I have ski patroled on them for 15 years in BC and Alpine situations. I would regularly skin up my area peaking in 2009 with over 80,000 vertical feet. When new they would hold on all but the steepest trail and if we had a new snow it would hold even on it ~30%. Not they are old and tired so I use them for mellow BC trail breaking on a pair of alpine twin tips and a telebulldog binding.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Highly packable, but probably not worth it I bought these a few weeks ago for a weekend of touring along Glacier Point road in Yosemite. Its a 12 mile snow road with rolling terrain, so I planned for lighter, smaller skins being a big advantage. But when I placed them as intended - the metal plate just in front of your toe bindings - I may as well have used my full length skins...there is about the same amount of grip and glide. I played with moving them far forward so that your weight only comes down on a small portion of the back of the kicker skin, but then I had an awkward distribution of grip in front and it made morning icy travel alongside a hillside very challenging. If they didn't take up half the space of my ordinary skins I'm not sure I'd have any use for them. But I'll keep them for days when I want my pack light, my ascents modest, and the touring long. But if I had to do it all over, I'd pass on these and shop for a speedier, more packable skin.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from a fuller repertoire seem great so far. of course the first time i used them, i actually needed full length skins and forgot them at the base of the hill (apparently i was overly eager to use my kicker skins). but assuming i bring both full and kicker sets on future unfamiliar backcountry trips (and even familiar ones i might say), this completes my skinning needs. i might suggest cutting the corners off the back ends so as to make a sort of swallow tail or even a rounded edge. on steeper sections if you begin to slide back, the skins can tend to bunch up and come unglued. cutting or rounding those corners seems to be what people do to combat that.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Great perfomance... but too fragile First: The BD service dept. is great. They replaced my skins in 2 days. I used them for the first time in mixed spring conditions and was pretty impressed with the glide/climb combination, even when steep. Near the end of the tour I removed them for the third time. I had heard they were a bit fragile and that the rivets could pull through the hole in the fabric, so I was quite careful... and a rivet pulled out. I hope it was a quality issue and not design. Will find out soon with my new pair.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Did the job I bought these kicker skins to get around in Quebec's Laurentian backcountry. My first time using them was today and so far so good. They were easy on and easy off, and while in use, snow did not build up under the front plate (snow was fairly deep today--at least for our area) and the rest of the skin adhered well. They usually provided just enough grip for the uphills.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Gets it done When you just need a little something to get you where you need to be. Quick and simple. Lightweight and packs small.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great with a big IF The buckle tends to catch snow if you attach it under foot; however I solved the problem by attaching it in the front curve of the ski so the buckle doesn’t come into contact with the snow. Just did a 9 mile ski in Yellowstone and it worked great going uphill and slowed me down just enough going down hills where I needed to make turns under control

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for moderate terrain. I have the 90mm waist ones and I was impressed at how steep I can skin. Super easy on and off and light enough to stash in my coat. I haven’t had any issues with snow build up but I have only used them in super cold conditions. It looks like I could bend the metal river piece a bit more and it would be more flush to the ski bottom. A great choice for moderate slopes.
